Title: First Therapy Session.
Post by: Nat on October 10, 2014, 07:44:30 PM
Well after heavy debating and lots of irrational fears coming to the surface I broke down and finally went to see a therapist. I almost chickened out and did not even tell her about the gender dysphoria but I eventually caved and let her know. She was really supportive about it (figures since she is a professional) and pretty much told me straight to my face "I am not a gatekeeper". She proceeded to ask me if I wanted hormones and srs/grs which I said yes to and she wrote some fancy stuff down for my insurance.

I told her that I take an Individualized approach to a lot of things and if I could be honest I was really there just to get letters for endocrinologists and surgeries. She said she totally gets that and said if I wanted to save on some of my expenses then we could just meet once a month.

After 3 months I am expected to get my referral.

Long story short my therapist was/is awesome and I got lucky.

How was yours?

That is awesome that both of you got the letters so fast. Mine is pretty strict in regards to following the Standard of Care. I don't suppose I will get it quicker than 3 months. Sure would be nice if I did though of course.
