Had my first laser treatment today, used no gels or anything prior. Just a laser and a device to cool the skin. Felt like 5 sharp pencils just constantly poking in the face. I didn't have any redness afterwards. He said I took the pain better than most people, but I have a high tolerance of pain. Eyes did tear up a little due to the pain, but it really didn't bother me much. He said with my pale skin and really dark hair, he thinks it will be around 8 sessions and I should be hair free. I still have the 5'o clock shadow, but this is due to the hairs just being zapped and should fall out in a few days he said. I felt my stubbies before I went in, and afterwards my face feels a whole lot more smoother. After time when my hairs are gone, the pain will be totally gone. He zapped an area where no hair grows to show me that it will feel a lot like this when I come to my last appointment, which I didn't feel any pain at all there. I already made an appointment next month. I'll keep posted how well it works through the process :) <3
Congratulations.
I had my 1st laser treatment last week. Although I have a lot of white hair :(.
Good you are getting it done now with black hair.
Congrats! I actually just had my second laser session this morning--I started last month. It hurt a lot more than I expected the first time (I had to use the YAG laser, at the lowest power setting), but it was a lot more bearable this time around. I was given a little ball to squeeze to ease the pain. My hair started coming out a lot after about five days and continued for about eleven days altogether. Just keep exfoliating gently, and the hairs will often just be all over your hand/sponge/cloth, until you start noticing patches. I don't know how my second session will turn out, but the first exceeded my expectations.
The only really peculiar thing I noticed was that for about three days after getting laser, I had trouble shaving. I would try shaving normally, then more firmly, then with a new razor, but it was like the hairs wouldn't respond. This went away after a few days. Not sure if that was just a fluke with me.
Hope everything turns out well for you!

Me too. It was as if the skin was ever so slightly swollen or rougher (like not even enough to really feel, but a light at the right angle could pick it up) at the points where black hairs had been zapped - thousands of tiny raised areas - and these slight swellings were stopping the razor blade reaching the hairs in the lower unswollen bits in between. Did die down over a few days though.
I do think that because the hairs aren't actually alive, they are zapped/dead and coming out, maybe they don't respond to razors like alive hairs do? I am not sure... but my doctor advised me this could/would happen so I am not worried.
After the fist few days shaving should go back to normal. The dead hair seems to shave the same as the alive hair. I avoid shaving for 3-4 days after laser. Also hair starts falling out between 1-3 weeks at least for me that's how long its been.
After a year and a half of laser treatments, I went to an electrologist two weeks ago to get the remaining clear/white/blonde hair cleared. It took her 30 minutes to clear my whole face, and she had to really look for hairs. Even most of the white ones she pulled out were already dead and just hadn't fallen out yet.
After she started, I honestly was not even sure she was doing anything - I had to ask if she had done it yet. Plucking my eyebrows hurts more than that did.
Laser hurts SO MUCH MORE.
But damn, it saves a lot of time and arguably money.

My hair looks darker after laser until it sheds. It can give me quite the shadow for a little while.
I know I'm going to have to go this route eventually. Once I'm done with laser since these nearly clear like hairs I can feel before shaving, but clearly laser isn't getting rid of. I'm glad to know that a session for those wouldn't take any longer. I kind of figure that would be the case since most of the hairs that were on my face to start with were dark.

Congrats. I have that same high pain tolerance. I didn't have to use any gels prior to my visits either on my face.

Yes it does hurt soooo much! Ugh I have a low pain tolerance but the results have been amazing so its been totally worth the searing pain. I have a session coming up soon and hopefully its my last one, then I can start electro for the fuzzy white hairs. That's my plan too Delsorou, I'm terrified of electrolysis though. I'm expecting my first electro session to go by like yours since like 90% percent of my hair has been cleared, just a few tiny patches left.
I had my first session about 3 weeks back. It took almost two weeks to start noticing the reduction. Im due back in about a week.! My laser did not seem to have the cool blast or at least i didn't notice it. But omg it did hurt! Im almost getting laser on my thighs from a different clinic and thats much easier than face!
