Post by: taylorhbic on October 22, 2014, 10:12:23 AM
I finally got a job and some money and theres a clinic in houston that doesnt require a reccomendation letter just a group therapy session. Since i live with my parents still i think its a good idea. Also im 18.

Staring HRT was one of the best decision I've made in my life.  I actually wish I would have done it sooner.  But in my case, I was 25 and had my own place so your situation is a bit different.  If you came out to your parents already and they are supportive, I say why not? Just be sure to have a medical provider monitor your blood for safety reasons.  If you haven't came out to your parents, I think you may want to do that first if you are ready...that's just my personal opinion.... :)

please make every effort to follow a medically directed hormone therapy, it is a very dangerous process without having proper chemistry make up.
and from experience the effects have been wat better since I started doing mine proper

Do it. Just do it. Seriously, if I had a job I would be transitioning right now with my own money. I don't think my parents would ever accept me and I am not very connected to them which hurts a lot, they really have no idea of who I am. I came out to my mom and she now pretends it isn't an issue. Like me liking men as well. But be sure you have the support you need from friends, or just join a LGBT group, when you start. You won't survive transition alone, or being LGBT alone for that matter. Oh, and if everything turns against or it gets really ugly which I really hope it doesn't, be sure you have somewhere to go. I sincerely hope it doesn't happen but you can't afford the risk.

xx

I would make sure of the policy of the place you intend to go. It probably runs an informed consent model which  does not mean HRT on demand. You will not be going to a place where you walk in and ask for HRT and they hand you a bottle of pills!
Many informed consent places still want several consultations before putting you forward for HRT and RLE.

This sounds like informed consent, which is medically supervised with an endo but doesn't require a diagnosis from a therapist.
