Title: Worried about levels
Post by: cass on October 25, 2014, 01:24:30 PM
So cards on the table, i started self medicating back in may this year, knowing what i now know i realise this was stupid and wish i had waited, however nothing i can do about that now, at the time it was either do something or die basically, for the first month or so i tried herbals before moving on to estradiol, spironolactone and finasteride which i have been on now for about 4.5 months, a week into using the real stuff i plucked up the courage and went to my gp who i came out to, he ran bloods for me (all normal, total white cell count and monocyte count where high but my gp was happy) however no oestradiol test results at the time (came in late, got it last week), he referred me to the nearest nhs gic who's waiting list i have been on until two weeks ago when i had my first appointment, however assuming they diagnose my with gd i wont get to see their doctor until about february next year, which is a long time when your worrying about things, i tried to get my gp to run another batch of bloods this last week but he really was not comfortable as this is not an area he knows anything about, i can understand and he knows i do and that i dont like putting him in this situation, he had hoped the gic whould be monitoring me already, he is going to contact them so im waiting to hear on that, he did however agree to test my oestradiol and prolactin levels again though so should have results for those next week, now having got my previous oestradiol results i can see after just a week i have a reading of 364pmol/l, seems high for after just a week on a less than average (using anne lawrences average as a guide) oral dose (trying not to mention doses here) with a normal dose of spironolactone and finasteride, since then i have increased my estradiol dose (still below anne lawrences average though) so expect higher oestradiol levels now,  i wont know what current levels are until next week but im worried, worried having read this https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,154404.0.html some time ago that i may wreck my chances, my current breast growth has been in line with that of a cis female (going by tanner scale) and im confused whether its too much or not enough estradiol that causes poor developement in mtf's.

I have to wait to hear back from my gp before i can do anything but in the meantime im just worrying, i cant come off hrt, my gp doesnt feel comfortable monitoring me and im just worried i may wreck things for myself, hopefully im not breaking any rules by posting what i have, i just could use some support and advice, maybe knowing that others with high levels havent been effected by this fusion would help too! :(

There are girls in the UK that may be able to help get information about a private Doctor and labs. February for an appointment is not reasonable.

I am in the USA and have no information about private Doctors in the UK.

Levels don't say much really as there is lots of individual variation (i.e. sensitivity) and levels fluctuate in time as well. I needed much higher levels whereas someone else might need less. It's just really hard to know in advance. :)

I know that february is not unreasonable its just a long time when your without supervision, still waiting to hear from my gp, still no oestradiol test results but my prolactin results came in earlier in the week, they where high at 623 miu/l, my gp has marked them as satisfactory although i know he did say before hand that a) they would be high and b) he didnt know how to interpret the results as cross gender hrt is not his field, KayXo i honestly dont know what to think, im seeing girls under the nhs's care that develop poorly and then girls abroad on high dose that develop really well, so if high levels can hinder development and hitting the later tanner stages then at just what sort of serum levels are we talking

Well i got my oestradiol test results today, all that worrying about serum levels and mine have actually gone down ??? they where at last test 364 pmol/l and are now at this test 272 pmol/l despite the small increase in dose between the two tests, not sure whether oral medication has a peak or not but in the first test blood was taken approx 4.5 hours after taking my morning dose, in the second test blood was taken approx 2.75 hours after taking my morning dose

Levels fluctuate, that's why my doctors don't put much importance on them...and also that every individual reacts differently. My levels are upwards of 10,000 and I feel great. :)
