Any advice on how to get your family doctor to prescribe hormones, was told that all family doctors should be able to do it, and if they won't they are supposed to refer you to someone who will is this true?
I Guess?
Most GP's can/will prescribe hormones to.cis-girls, but unless your family Dr has a lot of experience with both trans people and the informed consent model that is unlikelty to be the way with you. Generally speaking the Dr will give you a referral to a psychiatrist who specialises in trans treatment, and they are able to/ will give you hormones assuming they think you are ready, they are legally in the right (so no obstacles) and that you are healthy enough
Hope that helps :)
Mine could do it if needed. But he would need to send me elsewhere to have the specific blood work done. (Which seems dumb to me) So, I stick with my endo for now.
I am seeing a council in Sacramento at the gender health center, they are 3 to 6 months out on seeing their doctor, they said that every family doctor has the ability to give them if they were willing and that if I wanted to get going sooner than later that would be my best bet, and if the doctor had any questions they could contact the doctor at the clinic for information
Yeah, it depends on the doctor and what you need done. For the initial phase, when blood tests should be performed regularly and the dosage adjustments require a more expert touch, it's typical to use an endo.
But I'm going to switch to my own GP soon, as my dose has been stable for 2+ years post-op and I don't need any more dosage fiddling than the typical menopausal cis woman. (In theory I also don't need any more monitoring than the zero they get, as I'm on a similar dose, but he is happy to run all the required blood tests once a year at my physical just in case.)
