Title: HRT and physical activities?
Post by: Ash on October 27, 2014, 01:38:32 PM
Well I'm pre HRT, although I'm gonna start back jumping through the hoops tomorrow again. Got knocked back a bit and then kept putting it off. Even though I'm so close.

Anywho. Been wondering about the effects of the hormones. Still have a few hoops before I get to meet the Endo who I had planned to ask everything. But as I still play a huge amount of sports, at a very high level, I have always been afraid that I will basically have to give up simply as I won't be able to compete at the same level any more. Because I will still have to play with guys. The coming out and acceptance wouldn't be an issue. But playing at a lower standard with weaker players would kind of bore me.

Mainly soccer. But hurling or Gaelic Football too. And I'm already made of glass and too injury prone. Been almost a year since I last played a competitive game. Strength isn't a huge part of my game. But speed and physical collisions would be. Not to mention the help I guess T gives when getting angry and mean for a game.

Just wondering if anybody was forced to give up sports or something due to the effects of HRT? Don't want to, but the transition is obviously more important to me. It was rather humerous describing my love of footy to my therapist in that I pretty much ticked all the basic stereotypical boxes for diagnosis, but also has a super angry competitive side. And it was like my second question when I went in, although he coudln't fully answer  :P

I don't know much about sports, but I do know that after a few years of estrogen, you will be a girl, with a girl's strength and endurance.  And boobs.  How do you think your teammates will feel about those?

Of course there are many great female athletes, but they have to work much harder and reach a lower level of achievement.

I've never had problems with team mates as long as I've been able to perform. And gay still terrifies a lot of footballers. Played with some horribly homophobic bigots. Even have Princess in big pink letter embroidered on my boots. Never been a problem as I've pretty much always been captain and partly ruled through fear. The other bit ability.

So not worried about acceptance. Not playing for friends. It's really whether I will have any chance of still being able to compete. And even if I could, how would my bones and muscles keep up injury wise? Because the rules of being able to switch to playing with girls is crazy. Something like three plus years after srs before being allowed play.
