Title: I have been remasculinizing but what should I do about boobs?
Post by: Detransition on November 04, 2014, 01:47:57 PM
I stopped HRT around two months ago. I have been remasculinizing well. My testicles have started producing T again, the levels are around 950ng/dl as of a few days ago and they seem to still be slowly going up as time goes. It seems 4 years on female HRT did not damage them whatsoever and they only took about 2 weeks to come back in full force.

But anyway, here is the question I have: I have some breast growth, I'd say around 32A or 34A. I want to get rid of them. Should I see a surgeon that specializes in FTM top surgery, or should I simply go with one that does gynecomastia and pretend like they just grew on their own? They aren't massive and don't look worse than some cases of severe gynecomastia that these surgeons have operated on.

Which would you pick? I think gynecomastia surgery might also be sightly less expensive (I was quoted $4500-5000 by a surgeon, and it seems top surgery for FTMs tends to cost $6000-9000).

Oh cripes! Give it some time, they aren't big enough to pose a big enough problem to justify that kind of money, they will more than likely just shrink and go away especially if you are a slander type. If you are a chunkster, then it's going to take some cardio and upper body workout on a daily level for several months and they should go away. Then it depends on if it was all glandular mass which will shrink away, or if you in fact developed fleshy pockets which could just hang there for some time. Either way it should be quite concealable in no time.

That would be great, because as it is I have to wear tight sports bras and loose shirts or I look like I have either very large pecs (Which doesn't fit, since I have basically no muscles anywhere) or manboobs.

Well, gynecomastia is not that uncommon novadays - and they WILL shrink with time, so maybe in the end You could get away with that excuse (if that sounds comfortable for You).

I think the real question is whether gynomastia makes you dysphoric and the surgery is an important psychological step to detransitioning. Otherwise, I think it will be very difficult to find someone to perform the surgery with such minor breast development.

I was extremely concerned about breast growth when I started HRT. Five years on a full transition level estrogen regimen, I am quite relieved to have only developed an 36A cup.  At 5'10" 146 pounds, I'm no body builder, but no one has ever questioned them and for the most part I ignore them (ie no binder or attempt to hide them). My buddies compliment me on my nice pecs and I don't have any problems going without a shirt in the summer. On the flip side, my female alter has enough cleavage to look OK in a bikini- Everybody wins.

I personally went off my DelEstrogen injections a number of years ago for about a year. I did not do it for the purpose of detransitioning. I honestly did not believe that my testicles would produce again. My old doctor moved away and I was left without one and I was going through a very bad depressive phase where I was not getting out very much. The testosterone came back stronger than it had ever been. It took anywhere from 2 to 3 months to begin. My breasts shrank a lot and I had full B cup. Since then I have been back on HRT for many years and had my testicles removed so that will not happen again. I'm not going to advice anyone to do anything but that was my personal experience going off estrogen back when I had testicles. I am so glad that can never happen again.

I have a few questions about your reply:

How long did it take for breasts to shrink (with the starting point being when T came back in full force)?

How much did they shrink? You said they started at a full B but how low did they get?

Thanks!

If I were you I would go to a highly rated plastic surgeon for gynecomastia surgery, not one which specializes in transgender surgeries.

From what I've seen of other people's surgeries, even some of the highest recommended doctors for FtM top surgery have sub-standard results and the chests do not look entirely natural. I was between a C and a D cup and went to Dr. Navin Singh of Chevy Chase Maryland and he did a fabulous job. My chest looked amazing and even with all the tissue he removed, I just ended up with a tiny scar the size of a pencil's eraser tip under each arm and he did an incision around the bottom edge of each nipple so I don't really have visible scarring and my results were fantastic for what I was getting done.

I have since detransitioned because I realized that transition was not right for me and chopping my body up did not alleviate the real issue, which was a bit of my mind and a LOT of what other people had been telling me.

Well, they don't really go away....

So, you can use armotization suppressors to shrivel the ducts and tissues.
Testosterone will cause them to deflate and droop, think "Moobs."
And lots of targeted exercise cna make the fat depsoits dissipate.

You can look into massage, reverse "chi masaage" supposedly takes them down in size (IE, reversing the massage direction - the point usually being, the chi massage is done for GROWTH.)
I've seen articles on dry-brushing to BUILD the breasts, by pushing fat towards the breasts; reversing that might work, but I'm no expert - I've SEEN articles, not even read them.
also look into androgenic herbs.

Or, just keep them. Gyno is common these days, wear a sports bra or a gyno compression vest (they cost about $80 and up - i'd say go with the bra, you can get about 8 decent ones for the price of ONE compression vest.) the bra will minimize projection and bounce, and if you put on some belly fat, you'll be a guy. (From an old Trans* site I recall, "If you have a belly, you're a guy. If you don't, you're just a girl with no hips.")

some girls even like guys with "responsive" chests. I have not MET them, but I'm told they exist...  ;-)
