Today is the day of my first endo appointment. Nervous, scared and exited. My therapist knows the endo and said it should be quick to get my blood tests back and start on hormones. That was one of my worries. How long would I have to wait to get my blood test results back and be able to start. My wife is making it super easy. She text me this morning. Telling me to let her know when I leave and how it went. And that she loves me. She is being so good about this. But I still feel bad for putting her through this. But I know it is for the best. For both of us.
Cool wives are awesome, aren't they? ;)
Go in, make it clear what your goals are (although if your therapist and endo have a professional relationship already, it'll be pretty obvious why you're there), and make sure you're clear that you're committed to trying HRT. With any luck, you'll walk out later with slightly less blood but a couple of very sweet prescriptions.
Tell us how it goes!
KatrinaLynne,
You have one fantastic wife, congratulations on your endocrinologist appointment. I didn't have to wait long at all for my blood results to come back and only took about five days, so hopefully by this time next week you'll be on your hormones. This is a big step that you're taking and I'm so very proud of you. I wish you nothing but the best of luck on your journey, and may the Angels always look upon you and guide you on your path.
Hugs,
Melissa Ann
Congrats!! I bet you are going through the thousand emotions we all had from nervous to elated. I hope it does not take too long until you are holding that magical bag from the Pharmacy! My blood test's and scripts were given the same day. A year later the smile has still not come off of my face. Give your SO a big hug from me for standing by you in this wonderful journey. :)
5five!! Today was my first appointment as well for HRT. The doctor immediately placed me on spiro and estradiol today. There's a third one, called finasteride that helps the spiro T blockers... but I may not be able to get it as insurance requires pre authorization from doctor and waiting for that (was told could be 3 days).... I am told it isn't necessary, anyways. I do have to do a blood test prior to next appointment. How did yours go?
Welcome to womanhood as well Alexis!! :) :)

haha...I had mine down to the millisecond ;)
Congrats! My endocrinologist's office couldn't find my faxed hrt letter until after I left my appointment. Have to wait until the 19th to get prescriptions... :( Do they let you know your blood test results before your next appointment?

Finasteride eh? Hmm - It is a DHT blocker and as such is sometimes prescribed to help with male pattern balding. It works, but it takes a long time and may cause some initial shedding. It is also often prescribed for an enlarged prostate. But as you were advised is not a required HRT drug.

Sorry about the delay. I was sent my blood test results by E-mail and a personal call by the Endo. I don't know if yours will or not though. Hang in there girl!! :)
Congrats to both of you, I can only imagine how you must feel ^^

Ah, finasteride, my favorite subject.
Bypass the insurance - they often want you to purchase the rip-off small tablets instead of the generic big ones that can be cut. Have the doc write a script for the generic finasteride tablets and just pay out of pocket if need be. It's ridiculously cheap, especially considering a $9 month's supply lasts like two or four months, depending on what your dose is.
Great for male pattern baldness. Useful for mopping up that destructive DHT. Works wonders for those of us who are worried about hair loss, and it's soooooo much cheaper than hair transplants.
But yeah, estradiol, spiro, finasteride and possibly some kind of progesterone or similar are the holy quaternity (that's your vocab lesson for the day) of MtF drugs. Estradiol, spiro and finasteride are certainly the father, son, and (optional) holy ghost, respectively.
Excited that you've got your paws on the meds. That estradiol does wonders for one's mood - enjoy!
OK. I'm in the parking lot. I'm going in.

OMG I took my pills this early afternoon and just ate dinner and my evening jog...and I feel like... i don't know, something good... hard to describe... I know its ridiculous to think of any thing so soon on first day, but my mood is sooo much better and I have my hair standing up all over my body, feel bouncy and just overall excited/happy. My boyfriend can't get a word in between I talking a mile a minute haha ... if this is the normal reaction, I think I found myself!! xD

It's not an unusual reaction. Your body has been craving the stuff for years, and now that it's getting a taste (finally), it's euphoric. My first week was the best week of my life - literally like guzzling an unlimited pile of cocaine in terms of how happy I was. Not that I've ever tried cocaine or anything...:-X
My endo is so freakin' awesome. No body else there. Went into a room with low lighting and meditation music in the background and candles. Very calming atmosphere. It was more like a session with my therapist. Who is by the way just as awesome as my new found endo. We discussed were I am and were I want to be. Discussed my wife a little. Found out the possibilities and what to expect. And we are starting with what ever dose of estridol I want. I think I am going to go with half dose. I hope this is okay because I am not discussing actual amounts.
So I have labs tomorrow morning. My biodentical prescriptions will be ready by Friday and my next endo appointment is next Wednesday at 3:00
We are starting with estridol by injection. Then after a year it will be pellets.
Oral progesterone and oral Spiro right now with the estridol. And later we will be looking at finasteride.
So freakin' excited right now.

Awesome Nice!! I am on spiro too but for some reason my insurance required doctors authorization to pay for finasteride, which makes absolutely no sense to me ... if he wrote a prescription, means he authorizes it, doesn't it??! Anyways. glad to hear you're as excited as I am. Doctor told me no difference in injections or pills so I chose pills -- I read online that if let pill dissolve under tongue, it will work same as a patch (?) but doctor says they all have same effect, anyways.
I wasn't gonna say nothing cuz I'm weird like that but since everyone else is guess I will join in as well!
Had my appointment today as well. Went ok. They didn't get my letter yet, it's gonna be faxed sometime this week I was told yesterday, but did get my spiro script as well :D. We went over everything and as soon as she gets my letter, she's gonna prescribe me E. So, should be this week or next week fo sure!
(btw, is injection, she don't like pills)
Gratz everyone!

I know I am going to hear it from everyone here and I am quitting soon but I smoke. So injections are safer and it is only once a week. The other 2 will be pills. But this way I don't forget. I am bad at taking pills. And there are less ups and downs this way. Once I am on the pellets. Then its 3-4 months in between. That's what I am looking forward to. She says she likes me to be on injections first for a year. Hopefully I don't have to wait that long.

Thank god in don't need letters. My therapist would have given me on on my first day I saw her in January. But I guess I am lucky I don't need a letter.
Oh and congrats to both if you that started or that are starting. It is exciting.
OK. Just finished having my blood drawn. No clue why I scheduled it so early. Last night had a little fight with the wife. She tries her best. But asking the same question more than three times with the look on her face like someone just died set me off a little. In the end it worked out. But it just sucked not being able to be a little excited. Now I just have to wait til next Wednesday.
The funny thing is its going to be weekly injections and I will have to do them myself. When I get a shot I can't look at the needle. But when I want something pierced, I have my own professional piercing kit and I do those myself. Lol so I hope it will work out.
I talked to the pharmacy last night and they said my scripts will be ready tomorrow afternoon. So I emailed my endo and she said I can start the Spiro and progesterone tomorrow when I pick them up. So I will be on my way sooner than expected if the pharmacy does have them ready tomorrow. I want to be excited, but even though my wife is supportive, I am worried about her reaction. She understands I have to do this. And doing so will probably save our marriage as I am a real ass right now. Grumpy and depressed.
It might be different from what she has possibly ever expected, but be positive! she's been here supporting you so far ;D she'll definitely be happier once she sees you happy
Good luck on your journey
