Hey gang, just received this email and thought it would be good to share tell me what you think. Let's keep the fight going....!
Human Rights Campaign
Hey, you know Senator Ted Cruz, don't you? The one who wants to pass a new constitutional amendment ending the progress of marriage equality? Well, after last night's election results, he thinks he's won.
You may have seen him on TV, smiling about the defeat of some of our biggest elected allies. We lost folks like Mark Udall (CO) and Kay Hagan (NC) – who fought tirelessly to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," and who stood up last year to help pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act for the first time. What's worse, new anti-LGBT radicals like Thom Tillis (NC) and Joni Ernst (IA) will join him on Capitol Hill – and many more extremists will take seats in state houses around the country.
He's smiling because he thinks he's won. We're smiling because we know we're just getting started.
When this next session of Congress begins in January, the Human Rights Campaign will fight for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community's biggest piece of federal legislation yet – a comprehensive LGBT civil rights bill: a non-discrimination law that guarantees full federal civil rights protections for LGBT Americans.
Why would we do this after last night's losses? Because we know there is still a pro-equality majority in the U.S. Senate – no matter what Ted Cruz says. There are enough fair-minded elected officials in this country – Democrat and Republican – to get big things done, and we are committed to working with them every step of the way. Because the fact is, if every member of Congress set politics aside, we'd win full equality in a landslide.
You stood with HRC as we mobilized our grassroots army of more than 1.5 million members and supporters to engage with pro-equality voters, knock on doors, make phone calls – to get out the vote in a historic way.
We can't stop that fight now. We've got to double down as we prepare for our biggest legislative battle yet.
Ted Cruz may be smiling now. But, with your help, he won't be for long.
Sincerely,
Chad Griffin
