Title: How long can my T stay in this syringe..?
Post by: KamTheMan on November 07, 2014, 06:50:10 PM
Because I'm freaking out about doing my own shot. Last time I did it myself was months ago. My roommate helps me because for some reason I'm a huge baby about it. But I just moved home for the winter. And im alone until I drive to California to be with family. I drawed it up but now I'm freaking out and can't get myself to do it. Every time I pick up the needle my heart starts hammering in my chest. I don't have a problem with pain. I ENJOY getting tattoos! I'm so frustrated with myself right now..

It is okay to feel nervous. You can still do it even if you are nervous. I get a tad nervy every time, I've accepted it as part of the process.
You can do it!

Have you tried playing music whilst doing it?
I was watching a YT vid of a trans guy who says that works for them.

I'm trying everything  :embarrassed:

Will it be ok in the syringe overnight? Can I go to sleep and try again tomorrow?

I tell my self every single time: "For the beardddddd!!!" And then.. take a breath and just go for it >>
Or sometimes say, the sooner I get this done, the faster I can carry on with my day and that helps too sometimes. Just gotta get over that mental block dude>
Find something that motivates you.

Sounds like you're doing IM, so might I suggest switching to subq? When I was doing IM, I literally wouldn't do my shot for like an entire month even though it was supposed to be a weekly thing for me just because of the anxiety. I've had less anxiety surrounding subcutaneous shots.

My nurse told me to practice doing the shot like I was throwing a dart. You were, in theory, supposed to shoot it like a dart all the way into your leg. Nah. Not happening. Hah.

It might hurt a little more, but you can control it better if you lightly jab yourself and then push. It's nothing you can't handle. Just keep pushing.

I don't know how long it can stay in the syringe for. T has a half life of about 8-10 days though so you'd want to inject it quite soon after drawing into the syringe. In Australia, our most common type of T comes in pre filled syringes. For the first few weeks my doctor wants me to only inject half of that syringe. He said the rest cannot be used 2 weeks later, it's to be thrown out because T "goes off" or out of date quickly.

What I do is pull the skin to the side for Z-track then shift weight to my other leg. I wait until both legs are relaxed then hover the needle above my leg. I look away and bring the needle to my skin. After I bring the needle to my skin I push it in slowish even though it hurts more. Then I look and aspirate and push the T in.

I find the hardest parts are un-tensing my leg and getting the needle to my skin.

Hey guys thanks for the recent responses, but Ive got my shot down now, I made some other topics about it. I learned that going super slow has zero pain and I now successfully get my shot done in less than 5 minutes!
