Title: US vs UK shoe sizes - doc martens
Post by: Electra on November 08, 2014, 07:15:44 AM
UK shoe sizes are so confusing to me, no matter how many size charts I've looked at. I seem to get the idea that there's no different sizes for men vs women, but I can't be sure...

So the question is this - I have a pair of men's Dr Martens, size 9, that fit perfectly. If I bought a pair of women's Dr Martens, size 9, would they fit me? Additional info: i'm around 10/10.5 in US men's and about a 12 in US women's.

thanks for your help everyone!

Hmm, interesting question. I answer this with no more insight than logic.

So, I would imagine that Dr Martins (which are a great shoe btw) sizes in their respective gender specific sizes, will be in line with the UK sizes.

I couldn't imagine female Docs being sold in male sizes.

Hugs,
Bree

It does sound like you're a size 9 UK for the Docs. The US ladies size is approximately 2 no. up on the UK no.
Can you still see the UK size on your pair? If it says UK 9 you're a 9 full stop. (If you usually wear a 10 and the Docs are a 9, if you order online please make sure of the return policy. I personally order 9's yet buy in store where I can try them on 8.5's)

The best thing about Dr.Martins is the UK size system is it's one size regardless of gender. You may have trouble finding the pair you want near the top end of the size range of the female range. But it can make shoe shopping easier.

Now details describe them. I want details
(these are a favorite of mine. Last count I had 8 pairs)

I wanted to get these: http://www.drmartens.com/uk/Womens/Womens-Boots/Dr-Martens-Vegan-1460-Boot/p/14585510

I was just about to buy them (confidently size 9) and then I realized they don't ship to the US from the UK site, and they're not on the US site. they sell them on amazon.com but not in my size. going to call the two closest doc martens stores tomorrow and see if they carry them. if not then I have to choose between the leather ones (which I'm trying to avoid for ethical reasons) or just a pair of black ones, which is the only other color I would want, but the black pair are men's/unisex and that would be a little disappointing.

Nice choice love the colour

If they are an offical Dr.Martens store, and not just a supplier of them (which we have in Australia). Why don't you see if they are able to import them for you if they don't carry them?

I think I understand your dissapointment on if you have to settle for a black pair as they are more unisex, but you can allways purchase new laces for them to perk them up.

As far as I understand, UK sizes run 1 size smaller than US sizes, for example if you are a men's US 10, your UK size would be a 9

I'm not sure about woman's sizes but understand they run 2 sizes smaller than US sizes

This is the site I'm going off of http://www.onlineshoes.com/dr-martens-b_id19?adtrack=msns&term=dr+martens&creative=3782617399&device=c&matchtype=e

Did you try Amazon's UK site?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dr-Martens-Unisex-Adult-Vegan-1460/dp/B004SI1QNU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415616732&sr=8-1&keywords=Dr+Martens+Vegan+boot
They'll ship to the US.
