I started T last night!!!!!
The folks at Howard Brown were super fantastic and took extra special care of me since I was super nervous. It was an after hours event for trans/gender non-conforming people, and I was the only trans guy there for treatment, etc. There were all sorts of programs going on, in addition to being able to see a doctor or just talk to one. It was really cool and they do it on the first Friday of every month. I would strongly encourage people in the Chicagoland area to go check it out.
Anyway, I got the go-ahead to start T. I had to go to an off-site Walgreens to pick it up, since the one in the clinic was closed. They took AN HOUR to get my prescription ready, because I have two needles or syringes or whatever, since I'm doing sub-q shots. Then I went back and a Nurse walked me through all the steps and explained how to do the shot. And then I did it. It was awesome.
So, the funny thing is that about 10-15 minutes after, I got a funny taste in the back of my mouth. Something between sour and bitter. We went to get gyros and I lost my appetite because everything tasted bitter and too salty. I was just wondering if thats a typical side effect of the shots, or if anybody's ever heard of that before? Another possibility is that it may have been my own psychosomatic reaction to a major life event.
Thanks, everyone!

Hey! I met you last night. Congrats on starting T. I personally had no problems eating afterwards (granted, I didn't eat until hours after). It could be just your brain playing tricks on you or a slight effect. I do mine IM so I really can't say if it wouldn't be an effect. If it persists, I'd suggest talking to your doctor. Congrats again. (Btw: It always sucks being one of few trans guys at meetings like this. Lol)
congrats to you bro!
congrats buddy!

I remember you! Sorry that I said I was the only guy there, I thought you were working. Hope I didn't say the wrong thing...
Thanks, everyone!
Congrats!
I can't sat that I've ever experienced nor personally known of anyone to have that particular "symptom" you're describing, though. May be unrelated to T. Keep an eye on it anyway.
it's the placebo effect most likely
It went away by this morning and everything tasted normal. It's not the first time an injection may have caused a taste sensation, so it could just be something that's specific to me, period. Just wanted to see if anybody else had had the same thing...
Congrats and good luck!
YOU LIVE BY ME?! You said "Chicagoland" area.
There's an FTM event at Center on Halsted on the first and third friday of every month. It's aptly called Man Cave. Would be great to see you there. Now I have to look up this place you mentioned...
Congrats on starting T! Woohoo!
The taste you mentioned could be from the injection fluid itself. I've gotten shots that gave me a weird taste in my mouth and a salty scent in my nose.
Awesome Bear!!!
About starting T.... not the not-so-tasty side effect

Hey Luce. Yeah, I was trying to be discreet, but the clinic I've been refering to is Howard Brown. I go to the one one Sheridan, its easier since I live up in Evanston...
I was looking on Facebook for a Chicago Trans group and didn't see one. It would be kind of cool to do meet ups, or something...
As far as the FTM events, I may make it to one in the future, but I actually teach classes on Friday nights. I got a sub for last week, since it was super important, but I try not to do that too often.
I'm wondering if the T is in a saline solution or something. Like I said, its not the first time I had a funny taste after a shot.
See you around Chi Town!!!

Congrats on starting T, man!! I'd guess it's a side effect of just getting an injection especially if you were nervous/don't like needles, I had crazy cold chills after my first injection, and turns out some people get that with being nervous, which I was because I'd never given myself an injection before. Stress can do all sorts of funny things to people.
Again, congrats :) that's cool y'all live near each other, you should do get-togethers. If there was anyone near me in Texas I'd have 'em over for a barbecue :P
Sounds totally psychological. Also chills and so on.
But smell changes are not. I have definitely changed and like stronger taste things now--raw onions, coffee versus tea, etc.
As for chills, it is actually typical for cold tolerance to go up. I used to get cold in November and not warm up til April.

I looked and looked forever and finally found what I did. There are several LGBT events at Center on Halsted. Other than that, I couldn't find anything more than defunct groups and events.
Happy for you dude! I'll report back after Friday and see if I have any funny taste experiences :)
I read on my T pamphlet that food can temporarily taste like metal. lol

Interesting. I didn't get any pamphlets like that, just a timeline for changes. I'll keep an eye out for that, thanks! Congrats on getting started soon.
