Title: where to start on the face with the electrolysis
Post by: angie on November 11, 2014, 01:05:29 PM
started my first electrolysis appointment last week the lady doing it suggested to start on my upper cheek and work down, not sure if this is the best place to start though as my mustache and chin area are the darkest and give me the most problem at the end of the day( 5 o'clock shadow) just looking for suggestions if maybe I should start there or continue with what the lady is doing? any input is greatly appreciated thanks :)

My electrologist started from the cheek and worked her way down to my jaw. She also did "swiss cheese" on my upper lip and chin. After 3 sessions much of the side is clear. She said it will be manageable in 6 weeks and everything clear within a year. This is with thermolysis, not galvanic or blend.

Mine started on the cheeks first. Multiprobe galvanic, three hour sessions The upper lip came after about three sessions, about half an hour in each session. Upper lip hurts like crazy, I think they like to settle clients in to test general pain tolerance before they zap that area. If your hair is dark have you considered a few laser sessions first to thin it out?

Mine started on my chin and is working her way out from there.  I had originally thought it would be better to work from the cheeks down too but she said she likes to start in the chin area because that's where facial hair is the most dense and it goes faster once that part is cleared.

Eh, it's all going though so I go with what she thinks is best.  :)

I did consider laser but a couple people have told me that it didn't really work for them so I'm kind of scared to waste the money on something if it doesn't work. about what would the average laser treatment cost? I almost feel like the lady I'm seeing for electrolysis isn't getting very much done when I do a three hour session though I don't feel like my hair is very thick on my cheeks and she may be got a  2 to 3  inch section done in 3 hours. I have already paid for 8, 3 hour sessions though so I'm going to have to stick with her till they are done, she was running a special in November buy one get one free for new customers and then she has her normal rate where you buy 5 get 1 free! there also isn't any other electrolysis close by that is why I chose her to begin with she's within an hour drive for me! sometimes I wished I lived in a big city

Um, I go to a full service trans-centric hair removal salon - E3000 in Dallas. So for me the "which part" question is easy! The entire face, each time I go! :)

I started on cheeks and neck/throat. The neck area is easier to hide if you get red, and the cheeks just kind of go back to normal sooner than everything else, for me at least.

No matter the "main zone" you start with (cheek or neck) I suggest you to begin sooner as possible the upper lip. It's pretty much the must sensitive zone of the body when doing electrolysis (even more than pubian zone). So as you probably won't be able to handle much in one time (especially if your upper lip hairs are thick), starting it soon will permit you to do smaller zone for less pain.

If they got a good quality laser where you go and you got dark hair it works pretty well to weaken the hair but laser rarely get totally rid of hairs. You may expect good results if you start by 3 laser treatments then start electrolysis. You will save a lot of money with few "good quality" laser treatments. Electolysis usualy takes over 140 hours for thick hair (over 8000$ for most of peoples). Laser, if working, may save you about 60-70 hours of electrolysis (about 4000$) for 3-4 laser treatment (about 800$).

Laser will often fail on unequal hairs, if your hair seem to "split" color when they grow you probably won't want to waste money on laser.

But really, start the upper lips soon while doing the rest. Upper lips tend to lose pigment easier than the rest of the face so by doing small zone you may avoid harsh and discolored skin.

The chin and upper lip are the most resistant and resilliant areas... I'd start there and work your way outwards.

It's soon to be electrolysis time for me.  I hope the technician will start on my upper lip, because laser has left me looking like Hitler; that's the one area of me that didn't respond well to the laser treatment, and the sooner I can get rid of that, the better.

I'm asking her to alternate between upper lip and chin until those are clear and to get the most painful area (upper lip) out of the way. EMLA cream is a lifesaver for that area.

Sadly my hair is too light for laser so the whole face has to be done the old fashioned way.

Eventually you will get your whole face done anyway. I wouldn't worry of where to start but about how long it takes all together and to look forward to the last session.

If u can do some laser is a good idea well was for me 6 sessions and the only hair I have now is the little white ones.
But if your going with elec I would start chin and lip as shaving everyday can irritate the skin in those areas

I did my chin, goatee and mustache area in an hour. these are the parts that hurt like hell but I figured that if you can get these parts knocked out, the rest will be a breeze

I'm doing my neck first and moving up. I asked my electrologist and she said that she could do either but recommended neck up for me.
