Dr. Garramone did a friend's surgery a few years ago and I've been pretty dead set on going to him as well, but I'm also interested in a more local option since I live less than an hour from Beverly Fischer. I've been looking over pictures with transbucket and so far that's been the only place I've found where I can compare results and read people's feedback on their experiences (aside from hunting around for threads here).
Are there any other sites that are similar that I could look at? I'd really prefer sites that have before/after photos and an accompanying narrative if the submitter chose to write one, but I'll honestly take any combination thereof.
You might also look on youtube? There may be more pictures and descriptions, but I think she has a very good reputation. I have seen 1-2 results which looked good, not sure what they looked like before though.
Also surgeons should be willing to give you results (before and after pix). Your best bet is to compare how she does with body types which are similar to your own.

Fischer does have a good reputation. I met her and she has an excellent bedside manner, as well. I assume you know that she is well regarded for her keyhole, so I would really consider her if you are getting that done and it is in your area.
The downside is that you have to pay for her consultation, unlike Garramone. Of course, the cost of the consultation goes toward the surgery if you decide to go with her.
The positive to seeing someone in your area is that you can see them face to face for follow up. I would have liked that option, but I went to Garramone, myself.
She has her own surgi center and an all female staff.
Personally, if I had to choose someone within a 50 miles radius of Delaware for example, I would choose Fischer.
Thanks guys. I'm strongly leaning towards a DI with grafts based on my body type and size. I'm a B cup, so technically able to do keyhole, but I just don't think it would work well for me (willing to reconsider if someone like Fischer or Rockmore thinks they could achieve good results). I've looked at both keyhole and DI with Dr. Fischer and I all around like the results that I've seen. The problem is I haven't seen enough people with a similar frame to mine, and like Jay said, that is what I should be basing my final decision on.
I'm in DC, so it would be super nice to go to someone local. Flying out of here is a mega pain.
So if in your travels on the world wide web, you find post-surgery pictures of guys that are built like little mini football players with hips, hook a brother up :)
I agree with this (surprise!). :) The other thing is that Dr Garramone is he does not do peri. (Well maybe he has, but he will try and talk you out of it, and I have never seen any video, website, or anything of anybody who had peri from him. OTOH, heard of several people that he told were not good candidates. I think he does not like the results of peri, and does not want to do it. So I would only consider him if you want a DI.

This will be of no help at all, but.....if you want to pay the $125 consult charge of Fischer's you can see her large book of surgery pics!
I wonder if she would let you come by just to look at her binder(s) of pictures?
Either way, I don't mind paying for the consult. I would like an experienced professional opinion on what would be the best option for me and that's probably the best way to get it.
Will she do a consultation without a therapist letter? I'm a few weeks away from getting it, and I know some doctors are weird about that.

I don't think it would be a problem. If you can pay for the consult her opinion will be useful, even if you don't use her. Although she doesn't crank out top surgeries like Garramone, she started doing this surgery back in the late 1990's, so it is not like she is a new kid on the block like a lot of the other surgeons that I read about now.

ftmax,
Hi there. I'm so glad I found this discussion! I'm also in the DC area and in need of a locally based FTM top surgeon who is also reputable, experienced, knowledgeable, trustworthy, good bedside manner, etc. I am not familiar with Beverly Fischer, but in seeing your post, I searched and found her website, www.beverlyfischer.com as well as a couple very positive reviews about her work from fellow FTMs on YouTube, such as this one ...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7HuvL3FYm4. The fact that this surgeon received her training at Johns Hopkins is enough to convince me that she will be the surgeon for me rather than Garramone, whom I was also considering. Personally, it's Fischer's excellent bed side manner, qualifications, positive record and the Johns Hopkins history that puts her over the top for me. I don't think I could find anyone better than Fischer!!! Good luck on your search, I'm sold on Fischer. ;D Miles.
Miles, I'm also sold on Fischer. I spoke to her staff the other day (super friendly and very knowledgeable) and will be scheduling a consultation here after the holidays with plans for surgery in the spring. I'll be sure to keep in touch with you about updates.
I know Riley. He was very happy with results and her personally. He had some problem with rejecting the stitches which is an uncommon side effect of suturing (not the surgeon personally).
The only thing re: Johns Hopkin, is that they are not super trans friendly, however, she personally has not been affected by this kind of thing.

ftmax,
I think it's great you've decided to go with Fischer and I'm looking forward to your review of the surgery in the Spring. I hope it goes well for you.
Jay,
I wasn't aware about the transphobic attitudes at John Hopkin but it's good to know that Dr. Fischer isn't affected by it. Thanks for the warning though.
Miles
Yes, I think it is more the therapy department, from my understanding.
Dr Money is from there. You can google him if you have a strong stomach. But no Dr Fisher, from all accounts is respectful and a good surgeon.
