Title: should I phone about my interview?
Post by: Elis on November 16, 2014, 03:31:58 PM
So I had an interview at a restaurant on the 6th.The manager was meant to be interviewing me but was stuck in traffic so didn't turn up. Instead a woman who works there basically asked me questions about what was on my cv. The restaurant is closed until the 26th for refurbishment. I really want a job so was thinking of phoning him tomorrow at 11 to ask for feedback, I have his number. I just wanted to hear people's opinions on whether this was a good idea or not. I don't want to bug him on his possible day off, but waiting to phone on the 27th if I hear nothing on the 26th will be torture.  What should I do?  ???

Personally I would wait especially with the remodel going on. I am sure that is what is delaying a response.  :)

I agree with Jessica's advice. I work with bar and restaurant owners daily, and there is nothing that stresses them out more than a remodeling. In the mean time I would say if you have secondary contact information like an e-mail address for the manager, your interviewer, or the restaurant's general inbox, go ahead and send an e-mail asking them to call you at their earliest convenience.

Personally, in matters like this. I always felt that it never hurt to ask. But don't be surprised that they tell you they haven't made any decisions yet. I wouldn't bug too much because you don't want to seem desperate, but by asking. You are also showing interest in the position and as somebody who has hired for a company in the past. I always saw this as a plus. Now mind you, this is only my opinion, you need to do what you feel is right.

Hugs,

Melissa Ann

PS: I do hope you get the job. Good luck.

Hmm, is there a contact form on their website? Or anything on there to help you get in touch besides a phone number? Besides a fax  ;D

They just have a general contact form for the chain so they know what your experience was like there ::).

Employers do value and appreciate persistence. As long as you don't cross the line and get on their nerves, it shows that you really do want the job.  As a hiring manager I always look for someone who really wants the job.

You've waited ten days with no word from them.  And I'd say that contacting him would be fine especially because he wasn't able to be at the first interview.  Just let him know you're still very interested.

Good luck!  And do keep us posted.

I would want to know that the assistant who interviewed you passed her impressions on to the manager, so a phone call to him wouldn't hurt.

Well I called, he said he was going to speak to his assistant and email me later. I hate talking on the phone, I sound so moronic  :(

Good job!  That means you reinserted yourself into the hiring process.  That's good news.
