Title: boy living in a girl's dorm
Post by: kittylover on November 16, 2014, 08:07:12 PM
I sort of have a problem right now ....my right name and pronouns are becoming more and more common. This feels really good. But I know one of these days things will spread to a stupid person because you know people talk. The thing i'm most worried about is that a stupid person who happens to live in the same dorm hall as me will find out. I live in a girls dorm and I most definitely am not a girl..... I know they can't kick me out i've been told that by many people. But they could make life really hard for me......the main thing I wonder is if I should tell my RA before she hears it from someone else. I told her that I like girls at the beginning of the school year and she was definitely cool with it. But the idea of her knowing that I kind of don't belong where I live is terrifying. ....

I think that would really depend on your school.  I've heard of schools where they would likely kick you out.  The school I go to has an entire floor of one dorm dedicated to LGBT students.  I think also a lot of schools would simply move you to a dorm that matches your identity, regardless of where you are at in transitioning.  I would check to see if your school is listed at www.campuspride.org.  They list LGBT housing policies at that website.

I don't think they could kick you out if where you're living matches what your paperwork says you should be living.

If it is a religious school in the US there is unfortunately precedent for them to be able to do whatever they want to do.

truth.  I barely even believed it, but I had friends recently tell me they knew gay kids who got kicked out of their college and they weren't even living on campus.  Crazy..... the south is crazy.

That being said if your RA was cool with the lesbian thing I'm sure that you're not going to get kicked out because of it.  Are you on hormones?  that also could sway you one way or the other on that issue.  Its a much different story if you consider/present yourself as male vs the changes that occur on T.  Not trying to say youre less a man if you're not on hormones, but I think that the world kind of would consider that as the case.
