so today is my first day of taking hormones, my question is will they really make me feel that much better? been really depressed and sad lately took my first testosterone blocker and estrogen today and by the middle of the day I was at the grocery store getting lunch and just felt myself smiling which I haven't done for a long time at least not a real smile and I've noticed the rest of the day I just seem to be happier nothing else is different in my life right now except for starting hormones!
You know, I was always depressed and angry about not being able to start hormones. So I think once you start them, and you know it's in your system doing its magic, you're just naturally happier. I've been very happy the past month and a half and I was asked if there's anything up in my life, and nope there hasn't! I've been pretty damn happy ever since I got this t in my system and I think it's a confidence thing. You feel more confident and happy knowing that it's finally started, if that makes sense.
There is also a placebo effect at first and the feeling of finally getting on them which makes you feel good, relaxed. Tension release.
My experience was that it made the dysphoria mostly disappear pretty quickly, maybe within a week or two. With that under control any depression caused by the dysphoria should improve too.

Hi Angie congratulations on getting on HRT :)
I think I felt change starting on day 3 then for the next several months I noticed something new or change each day. I got scared for a few days 6 weeks in because everything sexually no longer "worked" then I relearned how to experience sex and how I now needed to express sex and sex is different and so much better now.
Good luck on your journey.
Great question.
the only thing I can think to add is...
Be careful not to drop your testosterone levels to quick, or you will get the full wack of andropause, which I hear it can really suck, but congrats on getting you hormones :)
Today is my first day as well. I can definitely confirm the placebo effect within 10 minutes of taking it. I'm like there is no possible way that could have effected me that quickly. I'm hoping for all the mental changes to happen quickly, which from what I've heard they do.
I expected little on my first day. Within 2 hours of my injection and spiro kicking in, 43 years and 51 weeks (as if anyone is counting!) of depression lifted and was completely gone. I cried tears of happiness all the way home.
I concur with Jessica's experience: the trees were greener, the sky was bluer, the sun was brighter. It was amazing.

What exactly is andropause and would I be safe if my testosterone levels are already low?

If your testosterone levels are naturally low you probably won't notice most of the symptoms n estrogen will probably reduce symptoms.
All hormones should change slowly to reduce risk of negative symptoms.
Andropause is the male equivalent of female menopause.
symptoms include.
Anger and social withdrawal
Anxiety, Back pain, Depression
Erectile dysfunction, Gynecomastia (male breasts), Hair Loss, Head aches
Hot Flashes, Hypersensitivity, Insomnia, Irritability, Lack of libido, Low bone density
Mood swings, Muscle loss,
Night sweats
Weight gain
