It has come out today that Michael Phelps girlfriend is intersex and that she did not inform him before they were intimate. I am not posting a link because 1. this shouldn't be news worthy and 2. I cannot find an article that doesn't use the phrase "born a man" along with other gross conceptual errors. I'm just posting this as a heads up that you are probably going to see a lot of negative articles and comments in the next couple days.
Thank you. You're right, it shouldn't be newsworthy.
Sad. It's no one's business but theirs.
why did she come out to the news before having an actual talk with him about it? i think it should have been a personal matter between the 2 of them when she came out rather than making it a public thing which just makes things worse since she is hoping he will still be together with her.

Really? I think I would have told him before anyone else and never even mentioned it to the media. But dumb me would have probably told him before we became intimate even. Even if he was clueless.
No it should not be newsworthy. All the crap like "born a man", what did she expect from the media though? It is uncalled for but really what did she expect from the media. The bigger question with all the other stuff going on in the world today, this is news? Really?

Because a reporter uncovered her history.
Really, I feel terribly bad for her. This is a case of stealth gone bad. Any other partner, and it would have been fine, but a notorious athlete draws attention, and parts of her past were dug up that she wants to keep hidden.
I've gotta disagree with a lot of what was said hear. Going stealth is OUR RIGHT. We are WOMEN, and we are entitled to leave the male parts of our lives in the past. She has NO OBLIGATION to tell her sex partner about her past unless and until she decides it's important.

Ok now I know. That is a really raw deal. BTW is the world such a safe, caring and peaceful place that reporters have to dig into someone's past?
So I retract my earlier statement. I really do feel sorry for her.
Maybe I need to go back for another read but the way it came across to me was that she was very open about everything; embracing the limelight as it were. If that's not the case then I'll remove my earlier post.
Trust HuffPost to get things right:

UGH. Why is this even news? My brother and I were both born with intersex conditions. BFD. It's not uncommon. Why does this warrant attention, while all i want to know is who has exzema or hangnails.
Media slime sensationalizing and exploiting good and innocent people for a quick buck.
Sadly, this is what happens to people who are seen with celebrities. Chances are, someone somewhere at some point would have dug deep for her history. But, kudos to her for owning the story and not letting the media bully her into silence and shame.
Seems to me that she's eating all the attention up, good or bad. She has a "public figure" fan page on fb and posting everything she can find about herself. And considering she said she has forensic proof of her relationship with Phelps and like 17,000 pages of evidence, I'd say Phelps had best get him a good bodyguard cause she might be crazy.
This is exactly the reason I suggested a Gossip/Tabloid section. This is absolutely not news.

I read the article and it struck me as very strange. An intersex born without gonads, no testicles, but during puberty on testosterone blockers?
There's a website run by TRUE intersexpeople....who's purpose is exposing transsexuals posing as intersex.
They're very pissed off about having their personal history stolen and abused.
Over and over again.

I saw that too and wondered. I've run into people that tried to take the intersex label to make themselves feel better about transitioning.
so, i sent her a message and actually got a reply from it. i truely feel sorry. noone should be forced to come out against their will, i take back my previous comment regarding coming out to the news. it seems they had already figured it out and she was forced to come out, otherwise the media would have made the story even worse than it already is. lesson learned. if you have a secret in your past... dont become famous.

The media outed my name and called me his girlfriend right after the DUI. Once they started digging, they found out and people from my past helped that process along. The story would have come out with or without my cooperation.

At the same time it underscores why it's an extremely good idea to disclose from early on.

As I said in another thread, if you ever have a negative encounter with law enforcement it can end pretty badly and all your secrets can be exposed. Privacy laws only do so much.
