I saw my gender therapist this Saturday (which was awesome of her--she was pretty booked and it would've been longer before I could see her otherwise). It was pretty long; first there was a two-hour session where she basically took my history and took seriously extensive notes. Then I took the 500-question MMPI... She said that people with GID have pretty similar psychological profiles, but from the questions, I don't know what that could be; most of 'em seemed concerned with whether I hear voices, hallucinate, or am depressed/bipolar.
Finally, she had another session with me, basically to see where I wanted to go with regards to transition. My mother then joined us and was pretty much informed of what the therapist and I had discussed, including a possible timeline for transition. She assured my mother that it's not her fault I'm trans, and that I appear to be a fairly clear-cut case. She's going to be reviewing her notes with the therapist she is taking over for (who has been working with transsexuals since the 70s/80s and formed her own practice). Once the MMPI has been analyzed by a psychologist, she'll call me and let me know of the results... so here's hoping it doesn't come back labeled 'paranoid schizophrenic' or something :(
But all seems pretty good so far, so... woot.
Congrats, Eryk. That's a big step forward. I'm glad your mom was supportive enough to join you.
Best wishes.
