Post by: Balerie on November 28, 2014, 11:20:51 AM
For those of you that are Star Wars fans, an 88 second trailer was released by JJ Abrahms for Thanksgiving Day. It was originally shown in 9 select theaters in the US during the movie trailer previous prior to Penguins of Madagascar.

I thought it was a spoof for a few seconds. Nice CGI. Ooooh, goosebumps.

Oh, and god help JJ Abrams if a transgender person just happens to be portrayed in the movie. There's a riot already started by having a black Stormtrooper and female in first scenes.

I can't believe that their starting to talk crap about this film based on an 88 second clip. Most like it but there are others that hate it. Besides that, I'm not surprised some are making racist comments. Intolerance is rife among the populace.

The low level X-Wing flight over the water was awesome...!

And I got the sense that Stormtroopers will be portrayed as being better trained than the first movies...

I am super excited, but also concerned as someone that religiously followed all the books that came out post episode six. I've heard (and it doesn't look like) this is going to follow that story line at all, which is a darn shame.

Hah! I saw that and laughed my butt of. I'm so excited for this move. I mean, JJ Abrams has his faults, but at least he knows how to make an entertaining film. I mean, look at the second Star Trek movie he did. It was pretty much crap compared to the first, but it was still scads better than anything Lucas has put out recently.

Wow, I loved the last Star Trek movie, esp. when Spock let his emotions loose on Khan's sorry butt.  I agree that Abrams is a mixed bag though.  I wish I had about six years of my life back after Lost.

Enh. Lost was brilliant for about three seasons, but it suffered the same fate that Twin Peaks did. The shows are all about the questions and never about answers. Though Twin Peaks had the exact opposite problem that Lost had. Whereas Lost suffered because it went an far longer than was planned, so they started making stuff up as they went along, Twin Peaks never got a chance to flesh out the full storyline, so an ending was kind of cobbled together. One had to invent questions after the answer, and the other had to invent an answer that fit the questions asked.

Generally I find his work to be solid. 8mm was a loving tribute to classic Spielberg films, and Cloverfield wasn't a bad found footage kaiju film. Both had their flaws, true. But so did the original trilogy. If we look at them with an overly critical eye, we can find many faults to them. That doesn't mean they havent earned a place in our hearts.
