Title: My Phrasing..
Post by: Illuminess on December 01, 2014, 09:02:03 AM
It always seems to trigger emotional responses when that's not my intention. I make observations — and yes, they are very opinionated — but I don't make claims. A post of mine from yesterday seemed to generate some hostility towards me when I initially stressed my objective was not to offend. I even stressed at least three times that I had nothing against the subject in question, just that it was based in the imagination rather than neurology; therefore, incompatible with and irrespective of reality. Would a community of nuns be taken seriously if half of them claimed to be Sister Bertrille?

I've been a student of psychology and sociology for years. Everywhere I go is a social experiment to me. I'm always observing personalities, interactions, and behavior. Living with an autism disorder interferes with an initial sense of empathy, so understanding human behavior takes precedence over relating. If something doesn't make sense to me then it bothers me, and I don't find it very easy to leave it be. The last thing I am, though, is hateful. If I said something was delusional I actually mean from a psychological perspective; not as slander. Delusion doesn't make anyone stupid or bad; it's just an unfortunate function of the brain. Merriam definition: "a persistent false psychotic belief regarding the self or persons or objects outside the self that is maintained despite indisputable evidence to the contrary."

Anyway... I guess it's back to glittering my posts with exclamation points and emoticons! :P

Well, the thread was removed, either by you or it must have violated a site policy? Just because you start a post with "I don't mean to offend" doesn't give one a free pass to then offend people. Posts that simply ridicule a group, any group, don't really belong on this site.

I removed it, because the last thing I wanted to do was incite anger from people. And you're right. I did poke a bit of fun, but it wasn't from a place of hate. I just see that kind of thing as being removed from reality, and not at all conducive to the cause of affirmation of trans identity.

To me, discrimination would be to outright condemn another group as subhuman. Saying that they have no place under the trans umbrella is no different than a lesbian group saying straight people have no place trying to claim rights as lesbians. It certainly doesn't suggest that such a group is anti-straight people, or that straight people aren't allowed to be allies.

But alas, this is my brain and my almost robotic way of approaching an issue. Sometimes I swear I was dropped off here by aliens.

The site is being ripped in half by the misunderstanding between binary and non-binary. No one in either camp was ridiculing anyone, but the hurt was done nonetheless. I think a post saying you only recognized certain genders coming on the heels of that fallout was poorly advised.

I wasn't even aware of any fallout between binary and non-binary. That's unfortunate. People too often think their own perspectives trump the facts, because heightened emotions cloud reason. I'm highly opinionated, but I never claim any absolutes. I have to blame my mind blindness (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mind-blindness) for failing to realise not everyone is going to understand the crap I say.  :-\
