Okay, so Susan and Mrs. Issu will remember I told them In the Mumble chat that I was waiting on some pretty important news about the military to become public. Here it is. So now I can finally bounce around excited about it. :)
Anyhoo, the news is about the Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, form DD-214. Up to this point, the DOD has refused to update the names of transgender veterans on that form. DOD has consistently insisted that it is a historical document, so they will not change it to reflect anything other than name at discharge. It has been a source of numerous problems for a lot of trans* veterans. That, however, is changing. Here is a news article:

Wow! That is huge. I have largely disavowwed all military service/benefits over the last 16 years simply because I don't want to have to explain the name discrepancy on my form DD-214. As far as I can figure, it is the one and only legal document that means anything to me on which my name has not been changed. This is incredible news. Where does the queue form?
