Greetings,
My best friend of 30+ years (jesus, has it really been that long?) called me on the phone a few months ago with some very serious news. His voice was shaking when I spoke with him, but it wasn't from grief, more from nervousness, perhaps tinged with fear. All the time I've known him, he's been a restless breed, dissatisfied with his life but in ways he could not identify.
But with his heart in his hand, he confessed he's a woman trapped in a man's body.
What could I say? He's my best friend and I love and support him like the brother I've never had. I was surprised, but in that split second of conversation, everything about his life clicked into place, and in an instant I understood what he was going through, and why.
Naturally, he has my complete support.
Although he lives far away from me, we text/talk constantly and he's "come out" (so to speak, not sure the proper term here to use) to some of his other friends, and family and to a one, they've been supportive and welcoming and accepting.
He gave me the link to this site, so that I may learn and perhaps better support him through the difficult changes he will be going through in the months and years to come.
So, anyway, here I am, in support of my friend Wynternight.
Cheers!

Hi AttackDonut, welcome to Susan's Place! I'm from Boston. Glad you joined us. I do have to question why you are referring to Wynternight with masculine pronouns. That pink F under her picture means she wants to be addressed as a woman, and we always respect that here. Having said that, feel free to kick me in the behind if I'm poking my nose where it doesn't belong! ;D See you around the site!
Hugs, Devlyn
It's OK, Dev; this is a new world for him and I truly appreciate that he's taken the time to come here and learn about it. He's known me under my legal name since I was 15. :)
And yay for support! :) I'll withdraw my nose now!
Hugs, Devlyn
15?! Egads! That truly has been an eternity. Think of all the things we've experienced together. And suitably corrected, she from now on.
Have to go to work now, will try to say more for the rest, this evening.
Cheers!
Welcome and 'hugs' AttackDonut, don't be shy in joining in on discussions, we're not all about answers, sometimes questions or just showing interest/support is just as helpful.
Welcome to Susan's, AD. Thank you for supporting your friend.
:)
Thank you all for the warm welcome, and forgiving of the faux pas in gender terms. Never had to think about such terminology before, and yeah, I'm gonna stumble a bit the first time out.
In any case, I cannot begin to fathom what Wynternight has struggled with her entire life, dealing with gender questions, and it sucks I'm so far away (we're pretty much as far away from each other as physically possible, and still be in the US) so I can't be there in person, but god knows I support her, and all of you, fully.
I spent much of my childhood in Denmark, one of the first places that ever did gender realignment surgery, so I"m totally cool with letting a person be who they want, after all, it's their life and it's very important they are comfortable being who they want to be. It amazes me that in this day and age, there are people out there (sadly, most have some voice in gov't or media) that take issues with human being being what they want to be. Blows my mind.
Right, so, uh, aside from reading a ton (I'm very open to directions on what to read, or where to start) I'll listen, and voice my strong moral support to all of you.
Cheers!
