I have an appointment on 29 December with a surgeon in Atlanta. I'm really looking forward to finally getting these Devil's Dumplings off my chest. But I'm wondering, are they going to schedule the surgery straight away, or will they make me wait X months?
How was it for you lot? How long was it after your consultation that you had your top surgery?
[The surgeon's name is Doctor Dzida Kpodo, who works for Morehouse. I'll keep everyone updated as things progress, hopefully add a name to the list of surgeons who perform this sort of operation.]
I would be surprised (and a little concerned) if the doctor forced you to schedule a surgery date straight away. I take it the consultation is kind of like a "shop around" for some people who are trying to decide the best surgeon to go to.
As for myself, I had my top surgery consultation last month, and my scheduled top surgery date is September 22nd, so I booked about 10 months out.
Nothing to add, unfortunately, as I'm just now scheduling my own consultations. But fyi: "Devil's Dumplings" is an inspired name.
I went for my consultation with Dr. Megan Hassall (Sydney, Australia) in August 2013. I already knew that I wanted her to do my surgery, so I wasn't "shopping around". Once I'd confirmed that, her receptionist made a date for my surgery right then and there.
5 months after my consultation, I had my surgery (January 2014).
Consult was in April and my surgery was at the end of July. I wasn't shopping around but I wasn't forced to schedule ahead. I opted to and I was able to chose my dates.
I hope I didn't give the impression that the majority guys "shop around" for surgeons. If it came across as such, then my apologies. I just meant that some guys have consultations with many surgeons (be it for costs, procedures, the general "vibe" of the surgeon, and/or any other things that the guy is looking for when considering top surgery, and therefore, I feel like a surgeon shouldn't "force" them to book a date with them, especially if they feel like they do not know about all of their options. Personally, I didn't "shop around" either. I knew who I wanted my surgeon to be, so when I made my consultation, I knew I would be booking with him very soon afterwards, although the receptionist made it clear to feel free to take my time with booking to make sure I can secure that date.

It just depends on the surgeon's schedule and how soon they can put you in (I think that is what you are asking?). It is just like anything else. There is not a certain time frame to wait.
It was a 7 week wait for me. I scheduled with Garramone during one of his less busy times of the year.
My wait was short, one month. I remember thinking at the time that I must have just happened to go when a spot had opened up from a cancellation because it was either the appointment I took or it was one some three-four months later.
I've heard of as short a wait as a month and as long as over a year; it all depends on where you are, who you're going to and when you're going, I think.

I'm not shopping at this point. This is probably the only surgeon I can afford. I just want them off, gone, so I can move on with my life. So I doubt the surgeon would be 'forcing' anything. I want them gone, they have a scalpel and hospital access, I have insurance - let's rock! Just give me a week or two of notice so I can can a bunch of soups, freeze some pizzas and burritos, and alert my mates. [Three or four people have said they'd help, and a friend in Seattle said she'd come down to help. So, yay!]

No worries man. I think (at least for me) we were all just talking about our own experiences. Looking for a surgeon is a highly personal thing. I don't think anyone chose their surgeon lightly. It's a tough choice. We were just saying that we had quick response for our surgeons because we had our choices.
