I am tired of living my life in the wrong gender. At age 50, am I to old for transitioning?
I have lived the past 10 years as a crossdresser 24/7. Now I wish to make the change.
IMHO, one is never too old to become what you are. You probably will have more masculine features, but those can be worked around (as you know from being a CD)
Welcome to the forums, btw.
You're definitely not too old. I'm 62, and I began transitioning something over a year ago. It has its ups and downs, but overall it's the best decision I ever made.
I had that same question when I started about two years ago at age 60+. It is still true that our mileage may vary from individual to individual but what is important to you? Being true to yourself and being free to transition was, as our brother Tysilio says, "is the the best decision I ever made"!!!!
A favorite bumper sticker, "Don't Die Wondering"
So much will depend on your individual needs but for me this is wonderful.
I was 51 when I started going full time. Yes, it would have been better if I were younger, but I'm still thrilled with the opportunity to live as a woman.
I had that very same question but I was 39 at the time. I think everybody over the age of 15 thinks that, to be honest. The answer is always the same, though: No. It's never too old.
I have just started on this new and exciting journey at age 61! When it is time, it is time! I have some of the same concerns about transition at a later age, but I know in my heart that it is the right time for me. I am now looking forward to my life with a renewed energy and although I have some fears of the unknown, I also know that this is the right and only path that I can follow.
Thanks to all of you for all the information and support for us newbies!
Transition at 47 here, spent the last ten or so years thinking I was going to be too old so didn't bother. If it's what you know you need to do then there's no time like the present!
Actually for some of us it may be easier than it would have been when we were younger.
15 or 20 years ago my life was so intense that transitioning would have probably lead me to loose my kids, my job... possibly my mind....
I have come to trust that everything in the universe unfolds as it should be....
trust the Lady G-d and she will show you the way
I'd agree with that. My attempt to transition at age 23 was an adolescent angst ridden train wreck...
Hhmmm....Based on the self-report of 24/7 cross-dressing, it would seem that seem that the original poster has been in a kind of transition for awhile now(de facto, albeit perhaps not consciously so). I certainly don't think the so-called "real life test" would present any sort of an obstacle with that history. Of course other obstacles/risks can be attendant to making a formal decision to transition, as well as others... should one choose to proceed with transition.
I started at age 58. Never too old.

people can transition at any age - if it'll make you more comfortable in your own skin, then i don't see why not! :)
You are never too old to transition as becoming who you want to be is timeless
You're never too old!
It is never too late to be happy with your life.
Dang, I hope that 50 is not too old! :o
I transitioned at 51.
It's never too late to be true to yourself.
If 50 is too old, I guess I'll just have my cojones reinstalled. *facepalm*
Lets see 58 when I began, 62 when I finished. Feel like I'm 20 and look like I'm in my 40's.
I totally love life and after 50 yrs of chronic depression that's saying something!
I first slapped on the magic potion when I was 58 (and now nearly two years later I'm 55).

Wow! Send us some of this magic potion! [emoji1]
No it's not. In fact it's too early ::) Like a fine wine a transgendered woman needs to age before being uncorked and shared with the world. In my expert opinion (I am not a doctor but I have been to medical facilities) HRT should begin when you are 53 years 9 months and 5 days old, at least that's what's worked for me ;)
Hi,
I have been on this site for sometime, but just reading everyone's story, but
not doing anything about me. I just turned 70 and I hated all my life who I really should have been
but there is always the kids to think about. I have been off the hormones since the end off Oct.
and believe me it is driving me nuts!
I am going back to see my doctor I hope in the next week or so. I know I will never fully become the women
I was suppose to be, but with the hormones I will feel a lot better, but being stuck in the house was driving me battey
I only wished I would have done this 40 yrs ago, but that's life! The really reason I was off the hormones is
because I had a nee replacement and know I have to get the other one done.
Sorry about taking to much, but I have to vent a little bet.

While 50 is most definitely old, it doesn't mean its too late to transition. You do want to be happy in your twilight years after all...
"While 50 is most definitely old." Just measure me now! Good bye sweet world. (Kidding. Away for a single malt whisky or two)

I say that from experience, lol.
You're never too old mate Life is too short not to grasp opportunities when they are presented! Go on out there and be yourself :D
Wow,
I was 50 when I started. It is not to late at all..
Hugs,
Jennifer
I am 61 and I have started the process. Should start HRT in about a month.
It is never too late as others have said, but of course I wish I was in my teens...

You're never, EVER too old to transition!
I dont think that transition is ever to late . In saying that I had the opportunity to do that in my late thirties but could not follow up .Im now 56 and am on hrt for a month and have full intentions of finishing the job this time. Transition when ever you are able; enjoy what ever time you have.
Happiness has not age.. The most important thing is be happy with yourself.. and no matter the time.. the years.. or the conditions.. The road maybe will be difficult.. but I know you will feel in peace with yourself..
Hi , no it's not to old , make the change & be happy :)
Pfft. Age is nothing but a number!
I'm 55, and I began taking T a month and a half before my 55th birthday.
"Too late?" I say, "you're NEVER too old!"

I'm 55 and starting my journey. Waiting for my Endo appointment. I'm ready and so excited! I never say (old) I spell if necessary to use the word. Life is short! Live now!
