I'm so new to being a boy. I know obviously I should go for what smells nice to me, but any tips? I think perfume is easier, I always went with vanilla or cotton candy scented things, but cologne scents are all weird and stuff like The Smell Of Your Ballsack After You Kill The Bad Guy and Did Something Cool And Manly.
And I'm gay, if that matters any.

you like for yourself personally. :)
Taylor of bond street - sandalwood. I'd go for the aftershave lotion instead of the cologne.
Very manly smelling
I wear Givenchy Play. I suggest going to a department store or fragrance store and find something you like. I love how this smells and the ladies (and fellas) usually agree. ;D
Also please be very careful when you do find a perfect scent, because at my school they use WAAAAY too much.
Not saying you will just that usually you don't need a lot for the smell to get on you.. Or you can spray it on your body
then put clothes on so it isn't too strong. :)

Yup! One spritz to the chest before you put your shirt on. You want them to smell you when they get close, not from far away.

If you still like cotton candy and vanilla, then keep buying that. Just because you are a boy, doesn't mean you have to switch to cologne. This is about being who you are, and if that's a boy that likes vanilla and cotton candy perfume, then there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
I'd take Queermosecual's advice. Males can wear nearly every sort of fragrances, including fruity, sickly sweet and even powdery. But I'd try the following 3 classics:
Fahrenheit by Dior
Acqua de Giò by Giorgio Armani
Terre d'Hermès by Hermès
Remember: sampling is the best way to enter the fragrance world, never buy a bottle in a blind.

Yes, please do not bathe in whatever you use! I hated having to hold my breath going down the Gr 8 Boys Hallway where I worked, felt like I was swimming through cologne! (Not to mean that you are that young, just that the Gr 8 Boys tended to still be learning how to properly wear the stuff and too many overdid it all at once... gag me) ((I'm in Canada where Highschool starts with Gr 8 not Gr 9 :) ))
Please avoid axe. That stuff smells like gym shorts. There is one nice one, but with that stuff a very, very little goes a very long way. You can wear pretty much anything. I still have a bottle of channel coco I wear on occasion. My go tos are polo and cool water. Find a smell you like and go for it.
On a side note, my dad always smelled like vanilla, and he was a macho military guy.
i've been using cologne since middle school. i can't remember all that i've used, but...
-phoenix/chocolate axe (i was 13 or so then)
-hollister jake (?)
-adidas (found basically anywhere)
-abercrombie (signature scent)
-body blue surf (inexpensive and found at places like walmart)
i do want to try something new, but since i use testim i don't really need much cologne at this point. hoping to find something new soon!
also.. as for applying it.
i kind of disagree with what some others said. smelling great has always been something that i've valued. i'm always told that i smell good, and i think that's due to the way i apply it.
i spray it once under each armpit, on my chest, neck, sometimes behind my ears (it's a trick that helps hide body odor, especially if you sweat a lot), and on my shoulders once my shirt is on. the key is not spraying too much when you're applying it.
The one dude I worked with really smelled of the stuff. I always made it a point to tell him that he smells.
I used to like axe when I was younger (still do for deodorant) but for colognes I like old spice and curve for men. But it's like Maxwell said, matters what you like. Good luck, looks like a lot of guys gave you some good selections :)
Only thing to really do is go to a Macy's or fragrance store and try them out. My personal favorite is Polo Sport it's softer cologne but it works.
Definitely stick with scents you like, whatever they may be. And definitely try stuff out on your skin before buying. I have Gucci Guilty Intense which a sweet vanilla and warm spice cologne that some women think smells great, you may want to check the Gucci line out next time you're in a store if you're really set on a new men's cologne.
