This to me indicates that you are probably not taking enough but as always, your doctor has the last word...also, it could just be your genetics but I personally doubt it...I needed a lot more than the average to start having decent effects, at least post-op

Almost 4 months on hormones now. I've had practically no changes at all except some muscle loss that I suspect is more from me completely stopping all working out than actually hormones. Yes my levels are in female range and have been for over 3 months.

The fact is that hormones just don't do much for most people. I started at 22 which according to this lot is "young" but according to biology is almost a decade  late. My doctor says that hormones are mostly mental effects anyway for most people that take them post-puberty. So there's that - those of you that got big changes consider yourself lucky. The rest of us can keep taking this placebo that is supposed to make us feel better about being stuck in the wrong body.

- the growth of breasts, with concomitant enlargement of the nipples, and (NO)
- redistribution of body fat. (NO)
- thinning of skin. (NO)
Irreversible changes
- breast development, (BARELY - Nipples got perky)
- enlarged nipples and areolae, (NO)
- stretch marks (for some) (NO)
Reversible changes
- decreased libido, (NO)
- redistribution of body fat, (NO)
- reduced muscle development, (YES)
- various skin changes, (NO)
- significantly reduced body hair, (NO)
- change in body odor and sweat production, (NO)
- less prominence of veins, (NO)
- ocular changes, (NO)
- gonadal size  (NO)

*** I started HRT the first time at age 35, and discontinued treatment after 1 year.  I started HRT this time at age 44, and I'm 51 now***

For trans women, taking estrogens causes among other changes:

the growth of breasts, with concomitant enlargement of the nipples *I developed to a small b cup, but my nipples have grown a lot; they're huge!*

redistribution of body fat. *I started HRT with a low body fat %, so it's been slow going, but it's happening*

thinning of skin. *My skin is definitely thinner, and I bruise easily*

Irreversible changes

    breast development, *yes*
enlarged nipples and areolae, *yes for nipples, and no for areolae*
stretch marks (for some) *not really an issue for me*

Reversible changes

decreased libido, *my libido fluctuates, but I get really horny sometimes*
    redistribution of body fat, *somewhat*
reduced muscle development, *my overall muscle mass has atrophied a lot, and I'm much softer*
various skin changes, *my skin is more supple*
significantly reduced body hair, *I have almost zero body hair, and what comes in is very sparse and light, I don't need to shave very often*
change in body odor and sweat production *urine odor is more pungent* But my overall body odor is pleasant and feminine*
    less prominence of veins, *yes*
    ocular changes, *no*
gonadal size  *my testicles and penis have atrophied, but I don't think I would require a skin graft for SRS*

Only a question for me and my understanding: Have a look at my "results" in the first post. Would you be satisfied with it or is it suitable to be sad?
I dont want to discuss it here, only a short and honest answer. Thanks.

Galaxy I have seen your picture before and you do look very feminine I think you're imposing a lot of self doubt on yourself and causing unnecessary misery. You may have more yeses to those questions then you're letting yourself admit and need to let go of one or two aspects of transition that genetics and hormones did not provide for you, maybe even switching doctors can help obtain your transition goal. You have already made a successful transition to a woman.

1.) This was not the question and 2.) Did you ever see me before transition? I mean, who tells you what really happend to my body? I think you dont know it but you want judge over me without knowing any details. Thats not nice!

... and 3.) I asked for a short answer and not for discussion. Thanks for disregarding this  :embarrassed:

I have to totally disagree with your doctor. He may be prescribing very low, ineffective doses and that's why this is his experience. In my personal experience, the physical changes have been quite significant and from all I've come across over the years with other transwomen, I'm certainly not the only one. With the right regimen, much feminization can occur.

Galaxy, I want to share something with you... one of my closest MtF friends, Arianna, could pretty much post EXACTLY the same list that you did earlier in this topic. She got no breast growth, no reduction in body or facial hair, no nipple development, no fat redistribution, only very slight softening of skin, she can't grow her hair longer than her shoulders either, she was more or less exactly the same age as you when she started transition, and she too doesn't see anything but her old self when she looks in the mirror.

The thing is, though, despite this, she passes. Even despite having a very deep voice, even despite having pretty much no body shape at all, she still ended up passing more or less 100% after several years on hormones, even though she could never see them changing a darned thing about her. (And it took her until about a year after her SRS before this happened, because her face also got a bit more angular on HRT between the 1.5-2.5 year mark, and she was still regularly being misgendered at the time.)

She doesn't look much different today. It's all little tiny things that have changed... her face and skin are a slight bit smoother, her mannerisms are now much calmer, her voice is softer (though not higher.) So even though she pretty much looks EXACTLY the same as she did pre-hormones, Those little subtle changes that only happened with lots and lots of time and lots and lots of RLE made all the difference. I can't see her as anything but a beautiful normal woman. All I'm trying to say is, I was shocked when I met Ari because I was like "what? YOU'RE trans?" I couldn't see any masculinity in her whatsoever when I met her, (she was 6 years into HRT by that point,) and yet she still didn't feel good about herself, and still even today can't seem to think about anything but the fact that she doesn't have breasts, doesn't have hips, still has to fight with body and facial hair, doesn't look any different to herself than she did before hormones, and is so much bigger and "less pretty" than cis girls, even though despite all of those things she's now passing with ease. (And quite pretty, I might add.)

Other people don't judge us as harshly as we judge ourselves. When I met her, I didn't see an inadequate girl with no breasts, no shape, or a deep voice, I just saw Ari. Because while we know every single one of our own flaws, every single thing that makes us somehow inadequate or "lesser," they mean nothing to other people... other people take you at face value for who you are.

And one of your posts that I have indeed seen is the one where you said "Other people see me as a ordinary woman..."

So I suspect that your problem is the same as Ari's, and to be honest, the same as mine... (trust me, I have the same issues with wanting to be pretty, wanting to be able to wear bikinis and swim and live a "normal" feminine life,)... constantly focusing on all of the things that somehow invalidate your femininity because you don't have them, and losing sight of the fact that in spite of all of those "inadequacies," you are a woman. That even though you can't accept yourself, others do.

Ari is beautiful despite her own perceived "lacks," and you're beautiful too. :)

For trans women, taking estrogens causes among other changes:

the growth of breasts, with concomitant enlargement of the nipples, and (NO)
redistribution of body fat. (A LIITLE)
    thinning of skin. (A LITTLE)

Irreversible changes

    breast development, (NO)
    enlarged nipples and areolae, (NO)
    stretch marks (for some) (NO)

Reversible changes

    decreased libido, (NO)
    redistribution of body fat, (NO)

    significantly reduced body hair, (YES)
change in body odor and sweat production, (YES)
    less prominence of veins, (YES)
    ocular changes, (NO)
    gonadal size  (YES)

I've tried a variety of doses and delivery methods and little has changed.. At this point, I've had to accept that I've gotten all the changes I'm going to get. Lucky for me, all the things I didn't seem to get don't seem to be as important as I thought they were..

I don't think they'll let me post my dosages, but my hormone levels are in female range now. Will it help increasing my dosage when I'm at proper levels already?

Maybe I'm just one of the unlucky ones that don't get many changes. I mean what does it even matter to me... I've already been told pretty solidly that I'm gonna need made jaw and forehead work to pass.

Maybe go see other doctors for a second and a third opinion. I needed very high levels, comparable to those during pregnancy but that's just me.
