Title: FFS after 7 months HRT?
Post by: Aus76 on December 14, 2014, 09:31:53 AM
Hi all,

I have scheduled (and paid) for my FFS surgery with Dr. Z in July. At that point I will be on HRT for 7 months. I know this is a bit of a ass-backwards way to go about things, but do you think that I'm rushing into it?

(Keep in mind, I am very hard-headed and simply am looking for some new things to obsess/worry about).

And as far as what I look like, the news media made sure I'm easy to find......just google "Trans teacher Pasco FL." :)

Hmm,  I think I was on HRT about that long when I went to Dr Z too.  I feel like it was a great choice for me.  I've chronicaled all of the recovery on our old farm website.  Just go to our site via the globe and find it, or here is a direct link (http://dragonflydreamsfarm.com/Dragonfly_Dreams_Farm/FFSSummary.html).

Bone structures don't change on HRT.

Get out! Your close by. Anywho if yor getting ffs it's mostly bone work and a nose job. So that will be fine as it doesn't change with hormones anyways. I say go for it. The other big things you may want to work on between now and next school year is your voice and any weight issues you may have. Remember your a lady and young. Weight is something to keep in check. No one wants to be a hefty teacher. Ok let me stop now. Congratulations on coming out and starting this exciting new journey. It's scary at first. But two years from now you will look back and be so much happier you are true to yourself. Def not rushing it in your case

Most of the people I've seen who went in for FFS bone work early in transition were perfectly happy with it. The "2-year rule" is more "you might not need it if you give the E enough time to soften your facial features," not so much "you're not going to be happy with it unless you wait that long."

The way I see it, if you have the money to spend on it, there's no reason why not.

You definitely might want to go easy on soft tissue work until HRT's had a chance to do things, though... like, especially, cheek implants or something, since good round feminine cheeks usually don't really come in until the 2nd year of HRT. Bone work is fine, bones don't ever change, but soft tissue definitely does change with HRT, so it would definitely be a good idea to wait for that until the changes have settled down a bit.

Oh, the joys of Google and local media reporting!  Yup, found ya!

First, let me take my hat off to you for your courage, given how public this has been.  I really wish such things weren't newsworthy, but they still are.

I did FFS after 4 months of HRT, and it revolutionised my life.  If you have a face with bone formation that is considered male, FFS is the best and most effective way to deal with an issue that no amount of HRT will counteract.

So go for it.  Be patient with the results; after 6 weeks you'll probably look pretty good, but the more subtle changes will take around 6 months as the deeper swelling slowly subsides.

Hugs
Julia

Yeah....the interesting thing is that kids had already started asking about what was up, which prompted me to meet with admin and then we had 5-6 subsequent meetings to discuss things and how they'd be put out there.

And yet, the complaints....ah, refreshing conservatism. And it's funny, because I never made the announcement--it was done IN my classes, and via robocall, and e-mail....but it was my principal who went in and told the kids.

And to address all the nice comments, thank you! I needed a bit of confirmation because some of my trans*girl friends were given me a hard time about it.

Nothing's gonna change that nose but a hammer.

On the issue of weight, it's being addressed. I'm down 77.8 lbs since that photo was taken. I can't figure how to get a photo on here.....

It sounds like your doing everything the right way. Don't worry about those friends. They will come around

Congrat's on coming out.. good for you... I am one year since hormones and have my FFS with Dr. Z in two days on the 18th.. just one day shy of one year HRT.
You may already know this but the one thing you will find in time is how much those who love you really really love you.. this has been the worst and best thing I have ever done and I would not trade it for anything.
I think its great you have scheduled your FFS.. that will give you something to look forward to and you can work on taking care of your body.
Eating well and cardio... I lost about 80lbs in the last year and the HRT has done wonders...
You will notice your appearance change and look younger on HRT along with a good diet.
Sorry about the media.. When the media gets a hold of my story one day it will be crazy but I don't care..  I am way to comfy with myself now anyway..
I love the lovers and the haters don't count.. I feel sorry for them.
Anyway, anyone who knows you well will love and support you..after all you are a giving person.. right?   Most teachers are.
Good luck kiddo..
Love
Keri
