Title: How does facial hair grow in?
Post by: Gothic Dandy on December 16, 2014, 10:09:00 PM
I have always wondered what areas start coming in first. Does it start on your chin, or upper lip, or what? When does the rest typically fill in? Somehow I've never been able to find information like this, but maybe I just haven't been looking in the right places.

I thought if you post-T guys were willing to share your experiences, a pattern might emerge. Or maybe not, but it would still be cool to hear how it happened for others.

That probably varies from guy to guy. Some get massive chin beards and nothing else. Others might only get a mustache.

In my experience, pre-t I had quite a bit of hairs on the sides of my chin. So on testosterone, those little side patches immediately started growing in faster and gradually sprouting more hairs. It's taken eight or nine months to grow in healthy sideburns and now I'm just waiting for the sideburns to connect with the chin patches. ::) I have every intention of eventually growing friendly mutton chops.

It really depends on genetics for facial hair pattern. Pre-T I had large sideburns and a slight mustache, my mustache and sideburns seems to be filling in coarser and thicker while my chin hairs are finally emerging.

Hair growth works the same for an FTM as a cis male. You could just google information on natal teen males and facial hair in puberty. Or something like that.

It varies from person to person, depending on their genetics.

For me, in order of appearance:

1.  Upper lip

2.  Soul patch

3.  Chin

4.  Under chin/neck

5.  Cheeks

6.  Sideburns

Upper lip, neck, under chin, chin. Cheeks and sideburns still filling in. I'm a blond so most of my facial hair is really light. Most if the men in my family took forever to get their beards (4+ years) so I have a while yet. It varies for each guy and I'm sure dosage and delivery system may have some affect on facial hair. I'm sure my dose is too low so it's taking me a while to get the full beard.

pre-t i had a mustache and chin hairs, but they were light brown so you weren't able to see them. now that i'm on t my mustache is very visible along with my growing chin hairs and a few hairs on my upper neck. i have some on my cheeks, which i just shave off now, and some along my sideburn area. just now noticing a little bit on the soul patch area? i guess for me it goes in this order

1. mustache
2. chin hairs/neck
3. sideburns
4. jawline (only light so far)
5. cheeks
6. soul patch

My facial hair tends to be very dark brown to black. They say your eyebrows are the same colour as your hair in your nether region :^)! And since Facial hair has a striking resemblance to that you can probably expect your facial hair to be the same colour.

I started growing my facial hair about 2 and a half months in with:
1. Mustache
2. Under Chin
3. Neck
4. Chin
5. Side burns
6. Jaw
7. Cheeks

I rub my face a lot during the day to get the blood flow in and I take my Biotin pills daily. One day I will have the dream.

2. Sideburns
3. Jaw/under
4. Middle of chin
5. And my mustache is.. barely there but it's still coming in lol
6. Still waiting for under chin

Mine started after a couple months with my moustache getting darker and some hairs under my chin, and that's been filling in since then and spreading down my neck slowly and up to the front of my chin. My sideburns are very light and slowly getting darker and my cheeks get that peach fuzz if I don't shave. I'm about a year and 3 months on T for reference.

It depends on your genetics, how high your dose is, etc.

Pre-T, I had some hairs on my upper lip, and a few chin hairs and faint sideburns. I'm now a little over six months on testosterone, and what appeared first was hair around my chin and jawline, which slowly crept up to my sideburns, and now my mustache is fairly visible. I can't grow a beard, yet, but a fairly weak chinstrap - it all looks rather prepubescent anyhow so I shave it off.

I hope my sideburns come in thicker in a few months, though.

I started T last april and had a little bit of facial hair before that. I started with a few side burn hairs and a few whiskers above the corners of my mouth.

Hairs started popping up lower down in the side burn area. Then spreading towards my cheek. While the whole thing got denser the densest part is the square inch closest to my hairline.

I gained a few chin hairs that are right on the edge and a few under my chin. the mustache hairs got thicker but I don't think there are any more of them.

Under the chin, then the sideburns/jawline, then the sides of the beard, now the mustache is slowly working its way in.

Mine was chinstrap, took a while for the sides to fill in. Still have a wimpy 'stache, and a tiny soul patch.

Friend grew a great 'stache right out of the gate and has a great goatee but still can't get the sides to grow much.

My hair grew in a few spots at the same time. My sideburns grew down my jawline. My chin hairs grew with a few random thick strands then spread a bit left, right, and down towards my neck. The moustache and chin saw hair development first but the hair in my my moustache is very thin while it thickened everywhere else.

So thick dark chin hairs that were sparse happened around the same time as thin moustache hairs. Side burns developing was sort of going on but very slowly and started thin. I'm at over 4 years on T and the underside of my chin is completely filled but my cheeks have only a few hairs.

I'm actually so excited about the thought of being able to grow a beard. I don't want a huge one, but always picture myself with long stubble. My dad had a beard years ago so if it's based on genetics, that sounds hopeful!

Still haven't thought of a response to this other than D'OH. But I'm glad everyone else is having fun with it!

Can't wait to add my own contribution one of these days.

LOL  Truth be told the VERY first thought I had was to say...dude, just ask your husband!  But, I thought it may make me look like a jerk/make you feel bad.  But, it's all good...it has become a good thread, like you said.   :)

I'm gonna guess that on T mine would start around the chin area, I have several there already so it would be just a few more.  ;D

In all seriousness, I hope that I would get a decent goatee. I'd rather not have the bushman/mountainman/duckdynasty bear personally, but a goatee or soulpatch... yeah.

Upper lip, chin, under chin and just recently side burns. Although where I already had side burns (next to ears) got thicker before anything else. My stache randomly stopped coming in, and I started getting chin hair, then that progressed to under my chin (both places are much more obvious than anywhere else on my face). Then maybe a month ago I noticed thin and small lines of hair on each side burn area of my face. I have been on T since late September, 2013.

1. Neck
2. Under-chin
3. Sideburns
4. Jaw
5. Cheeks (filling in nicely now)
6. Chin (beginning to creep towards the middle from the sides)
7. Mustache (mostly transitory; very few terminal yet)
8. Soul Patch (will be dead last, just beginning to get the transitory under the lip)

I've basically got a 'Wolverine'.

I started getting black moustache hairs 2 weeks on t. I'm now 2 months and my moustache is growing alot more black hairs. I don't have sideburns but the peach fuzz there is really thick and long
