Title: Hysto Questions
Post by: icesolidmind on December 17, 2014, 03:55:47 PM
My goal is to some day get bottom surgery, I prefer the phalloplasty. I'd like to get started by getting a hysto done but I am not sure how to start as far as getting information as to where it is done and how to go about it with insurance, if possible, since all my documents have Male on them. I live in the northeastern area of the US if it helps at all. Thanks!

Hmm. Well, you might want to change your subject line to something like "hysto while legally male." (Not very grammatical, but it gets the point across.)

Does your insurance cover trans-related hysto? If so, you might be able to get it covered, and you might not have to push very hard. If trans is covered, then talk to your insurance provider.

If not, do you have problems with the organs in question? If you do, well, you might be able to get it covered. However, if you have been on T for a while, the provider might well try to argue that you did it to yourself unless you had a prior history of problems. (And they would probably still resist.) But I have heard of guys who managed to get hysto covered after a bit of a battle.

A few states now require insurance companies to cover trans stuff, but I don't know which states (apart from my own). You should be able to find some threads floating around.

I'm sure that some other folks will chime in with more information, but you really need to figure out what your policy covers.

I want to get a hysto soon as possible which is probably in a couple of years. I am young only 22 and have no real medical issues with the parts so will have to find a surgeon to do one and hopefully will have insurance that will cover it too.  I understand the coat is easily $10K if you have to pay out of pocket.
