I have been looking for an anti androgen but; don't like what I'v been hearing of (side effects) with spironolactone. Can I get some
good input that points out the advantages of going with Androcur..Iam way scared of the negatives with Spiro.
I was on spironolactone when I began HRT, I have since gone onto androcur (or cyproterone acetate).
I did have a number of issues with spiro ranging from lack of AA effect even on a full dose to leg cramping and excessive trips to the toilet. To my body spiro just wasn't doing an effective job of suppressing T and I was getting the negative effects from taking spiro.
Since going onto CA, I've not had any of the negative effects of spiro. I've also had better effective reduction of T using CA, but it's not all a bed of roses taking CA.
A word of warning... CA is not for everyone (No one AA fits all anyway). If you have diabetes, liver issues, at high risk of DVT or even prone to bouts of depression you should stay away from it. Even if you aren't prone to depression, over time it can cause you to develop a sense of paranoia and inner emptiness. You need to watch out for the mental effects of CA and understand that it is the CA which is having an effect on your mental well-being and not other external factors. Stopping CA will revert those negative mental effects, but CA has quite a long half life within your system and can take weeks before the negative mental effects wear off.
Rely on your endocrinologist. AA are potent drugs with lots of potential side effects.
Don't even consider self medication with these drugs. You can suffer severe side effects and even death on these drugs if used incorrectly.

Same with Leila, I am also on CA and it works better for me than spiro due to some side effects when I first took it.
Always consult your doctor when taking HRT.

Cyproterone is really powerful and it has a half-life of 40hours so it can be taken at a low dose daily or a mid to high dose every second day, also considering it's half-life (or how long it is active) if your on a mid to high level dose and taking it every day the strength will double up, meaning it will most definitely decrease libido and cause loss of erection completely, so if that is not good for you, you will only need a really low dose daily, or a mid to high dose every second day.
Personally I prefer bicalutamide or flutamide if I'm low on money, because it blocks the actions of testosterone instead of stopping testosterone from being made and with that being said it's much easier to find the sweet spot (or dose) that will allow me to still have erections.
Always always do HRT under medical supervision and if you're buying online always notify you're doctor on your purchase n intent of use, doctors are also required by law not to share, but to protect your medical information, your GP should also be able to refer you to other doctors to monitor your progress, if not get a new GP till you find one that will help, also if you self medicate it may effect your chances of a therapist giving you a letter of recommendation for any future surgery like ffs and srs.

Even with my doctor monitoring it, CA has given a few of its nastier side effects - which we were able to ID and manage.. Without monitoring I'd probably have been sized for a pine box..
