It's difficult at times for gays and lesbians to find tolerance in the Reno area, Ramirez added.

"It is difficult for sure, me being transsexual," Ramirez said.

"It is a big statement for gay pride," said Glenn Prather of Reno, bare-chested except for a leather harness on his shoulders. "A lot of the people who show up here, you don't really see out and about because they are living regular lives with their significant others. But this is a good thing. The county is starting to get more tolerant of it."
