so im down visiting with family and got asked a hypothetical question.
my stepdad has a tendency to tink up odd scenarios and asked, what would happen if i was going through transition and we had a financial collapse and just say, hormones became completely unavailable. what would happen.
i had no cue what to say other than that alot of people would be horribly screwed. i started thinking about some recent posts abot limited availability and shortage at certain pharmacies. what do you guys think? what would happen if hrmones became unavailable?
If it's just an estrogen shortage, I'd start eating A LOT of soya just to tie me over till it was available again. Of course it's a very weak phyto-estrogen so there's no guarantee of anything^, but at least tofu is easily found here at least.
^ Please don't take the above as serious or as an actual alternative to real pharmaceutical grade estrogen.
Honestly..if it happens, then it happens. I'm not going to worry about stuff like that.
Meh. I'm nearly 50. I'm post op. Fairer women than me have survived menopause. I'd do the same.
Miharu
Me i would just go back through menopause.
Grrr!
Well, if I happens it happens. There are people in many parts of the world just trying to survive and even if they were trans trying to stay alive in a war zone or under a despot or a dirt poor nation with no food would surely take precedence over transitioning. I just thank the stars I've been fortunate enough to live in a country at a time when transition is actually possible not some far off fantasy.
I would be finding alternatives to E...of course in a "SHTF" scenario I can still pass as a man (for intimidation factor) and still remember all the "action drills" if needed to keep myself and mine safe.
As a bit of additional suggestion....
Over the time I've been on hrt, I've found that if one gets their Rx refilled a week or so before the bottle is empty, one can stash that last week's worth of meds in any spare bottle. (I'm sure we all have many such bottles...;) )
Over time, one can stash quite a backup amount, and even rotate the old stock with new, to prevent expiration date issues.
