Since I've moved to Oklahoma my primary Doctor has basically been just refilling my hormone prescriptions I had from New York. I had questions about things and he really couldn't answer them and made a referral to an endocrinologist but Tricare denied it based on the coding. I'm going to try seeing him to get it fixed by changing the coding on referral and I'm also appealing the decline. Basically he coded the referral for Gender Identity disorder which I guess isn't covered, but they do cover Hormone replacement therapy and the girl I talked to on the phone said something simple like that might get the referral through. In the meantime, does anyone know of any resources designed for medical providers that I could present to my Doctor to help educate him in hormone treatment for transgender patients?
The Standards of Care would probably be the best bet. Ill see if I can find some coding information, I know I've seen some.
