Title: benefits vs cost of progesterone
Post by: Kristinadiva on January 04, 2015, 10:19:12 AM
Hi :) So I have a quick question I was hoping to get cleared up. I started hrt on dec 1st and the doc prescribed estradiol and spiro.  I have noticed a lot of posts from girls saying that they are also taking progesterone.  From what I understood from doing a little research the progesterone helps the body to absorb the estrogen better? ( laymans terms :p) Is this somewhat correct? And also is it worth it to pay for the extra script? I'm barely covering what I am on as it is with no coverage atm. Thank you in advance for your input :)

Progesterone is a controversial topic. Most endos and many studies say that progesterone doesn't significantly affect feminization. Many trans women on progesterone disagree. My doctor told me that the primary "benefit" of progesterone is the onset of PMS symptoms. Unless that is something you're after, I would say you don't need to take progesterone.

I think I have personally benefited from the addition of progesterone. Just recently, I wasn't absorbing it as efficiently and I felt the difference! ->-bleeped-<-ty! You can't really know until you take it for yourself and judge results, if, of course, your doctor agrees. :)
