Title: Two Poems, Non Gender Related
Post by: MeghanAndrews on August 20, 2007, 09:29:39 PM
I didn't know we had a poetry forum on Susan's, but Emelye told me about it. I self-published two books several years ago. The first is more abstract, dealing with some identity issues, I wrote it when I was 19-22. The second book was written in a two week period after my divorce and deals with some extremely raw emotions. There's a four letter word in the second poem, I took artistic license with it, I hope the moderator is ok with that, if not I could replace the poem, but I thought this was most representative of my work in the second book. I'm going to give you a poem from each book:

From "Journies"

Broken Cycle (Momentary)
A man and a woman
enjoy each other most when
making dinner.  A defined recipe
for a future product exists.  No undetermined
variables or unforeseen problems.  They
laugh and cook what will soon be tonight's
energy for tomorrow, never once mentioning the
nights alone
or broken promises.
He holds the ladle up for her to taste
and she pours him a glass of wine they had the
first time they made love.
Then they eat dinner and go on to more important
matters like
watching television,
paying bills,
or
running.

From "Exorcising Love"

Bury
Love is overrated.
Love involves broken dreams
And compromised principles.
Love involves chains and
Punishment and Guilt,
Love is evol spelled backwards.
Love is a four letter word like
->-bleeped-<-.
Love gives you something to look
Back on later,
Love is always later.
Love is hurt and dreaming
Answers to questions you're
Too afraid to ask.
Love is silence,
Tearing away at a heart
Like a cancer.
Love is still.
Love is a snowfall
On a cold winter
Night.  Solitary walk,
Looking back to see
The snow has buried
Your footprints.
Love is looking back
And smiling at everything
From a safe distance.
