Criticism of a Gender Theory, and a Scientist Under Siege

I don't agree with the theory but this:

did more damage to us than any crackpot theory. How could anyone think that that is an acceptable tactic?

Um. So it was not bad science because 'the book did not qualify as scientific research'? All right, I'm willing to accept that. I don't think it's enough to dismiss all the ethical issues, though. In a sense, it's even worse for a psychology professor to present controversial theories in the form of a popularised book than as a proper scientific study.
Of course, I haven't looked at this mess thoroughly enough to make any judgements. Perhaps I should.

The NY Times story is filled with a lot of other inaccuracies, are you sure this actually happened?

If it didn't, Ms. James should be looking at suing for libel and defamation, because it's an appalling accusation if false.

I find it difficult to accept with all due gullibility, that a guy that presented inflammatory theories disguised as a book that was supposedly academically researched, was trying to put forward a serious scientific argument after giving his book the title, "The Man Who Would Be Queen." Gimme a break. I remember when this first came out. Leigh was livid.
And now he is seeking sympathy from the medical community, and they are rallying around him. Do I need to say I told you so?! They don't give a damn about you. This is another example of what they really think of all of you. You are their pets, and nothing more.

I fight fact vs anecdotal evidence every day in my business. It's strange too... because I'm in the physical sciences where my issues can be easily supported with hard evidence. BUT NOOOOO.
It's easy to see how this all happens in our little part of the world of GID.... there's a market for it and money to be made.
