Title: Time from GP referral to HRT prescription.
Post by: alexbb on January 09, 2015, 05:50:18 AM
Hi there!
i just had my first GP appointment (fully dolled up haha) and it was great. She referred my to the GIC for the next step.
However it looks like there might be a 6 month wait just to see them for the first time, and then another long wait to a second appointment, at a minimum, before they will agree to prescribe HRT.

Has anyone else been through this process, do you have any info or advice, are the private options that are preferable, and do you know of good resources online?
Thanks!!
xx

Your chances of getting a HRT prescription fast could depend on whether your GP is happy to prescribe you a bridging prescription or not, otherwise you will have to either wait for a decision to be made once you are referred for therapy by your GIC.

Not all GICs have an equal amount of waiting time. You could ask your GP to concurrently refer you to another GIC if it means being seen faster. A study was carried out to see which had the least waiting times. https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,178573.msg1576455.html#msg1576455 (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,178573.msg1576455.html#msg1576455)

Alternatively you could go private and see the likes of Richard Curtis or Stuart Lorimer, who could write you a letter to advise your GP to prescribe you HRT on a shared care basis.
