Title: Underworks oops
Post by: Remiie on January 09, 2015, 06:43:21 AM
So I got two Underworks binders recent right? Me I'm a very small person, Every time I get a 'small' or an 'xSmall' its usually my size or way too big, right?

I got two binders from Underworks in xsmall and oh my god I cant get it on.. I spent ages trying and when I finally got it on it felt... weird? Then trying to get it off I nearly had to cut myself out of it as it got stuck so badly.

Now I just have to ask, did I somehow mess up or is it legitimately too small? I mean I've never had full pull on binder that covers my stomach too only a tri-top that is closed with clasps so I am completely new to this whole idea anyway. How do you even put these on??
So my questions being, how can you tell if its the wrong size? how the do you put these things on right? (I followed a video putting it on by stepping through the top and pulling it up. It got stuck on my ass trying to take it off.) And is there any better/other places I can get a decent binder that wont cause me problems?

Also the material felt really ... weird and uncomfortable idk.

Did you follow the sizing chart? These binders might be too small, or they might need to stretch out a bit. Honestly, it's one of those YMMV situations; that's why I bought only one binder the first time.

I never had any luck putting it on by stepping into it. I had to struggle and struggle to get into the first binder, and then I had to get my partner's help in getting it off. I had a preexisting injury and didn't want to make it worse; otherwise, I think I would have managed to get out myself.

The first several wearings were very tough because I had to fight to get it on and off, but I discovered ways to move my body that helped. There was a learning curve. The binder fit well while I was wearing it, at least until I lost quite a bit of weight and had to get a smaller size.

If you have one binder still in the original packaging, keep it that way until you decide whether this size is right for you. Washing and wearing help the binder to loosen up a bit, and one guy here stretched his out on the back of a chair. I don't know how much luck he is having.

"I'm stuck in my binder" threads are pretty common here, I think that's part of getting the hang of your binder.

I returned my sixe XS binders to them.  I was able to step in and out (not exactly easily as that is the nature of them) but I could NOT deal with the instant rolling up when I sit down.  Like a blind with a tight band on it! Instantly rolled up where there was this uber hard roll on the top of my hip bone!  I had it on for less than 5 minutes and contacted them for a return. (I bought three) had to pay a restocking fee and all the shipping, but lesson learned.

I'm a medium in t-shirts, but I'm L-XL (depending on the model) on underworks binders. They do vary also the tritops I'm XL and that fits snugly (wouldn't want to work out in it, but it's good for a normal/quiet day) I have an XL 997 which I fold up in half inside itself and constantly have to readjust during the day as it's kind of big. Got the swim binder from there in L and will be putting up a review shortly of that. I'd suggest experimenting with folding the bottom up/under to avoid rolling.

You gotta follow the size chart on the website. Use the measurement guide on f2mbinders.com rather than underworks.com. F2mbinders tells you how to measure for trans guys. Underworks tells you how to measure for cis guys. To measure for a binder, measure under the moobs (typically your band size), then measure over the largest part of your chest (typically across the nipples), then take the average of these two (under measurement + over measurement / two). That's the measurement you should find on the size chart.

I wear a small/medium shirt. A large tri-top. And a medium 997. A lot of people say to order based on your shirt size, but that doesn't always work for binders. To make sure you're binding safely, please follow the size chart.

That being said, if you got the wrong size, send them an email and see about exchanging them. They're pretty easy to work with and have great customer service.

I had the same problem with rolling up when I sat down! Wasn't comfortable no.

I cant do any exchanges as I live in the UK, I'm probably gonna try to stretch one out and see what happens and give the other one away to another trans guy whos a little smaller than me.

As for the feel... I wear a thin, snug tshirt under my binder. I think it helps when getting the binder on and off. I can only put it on over my head, no stepping in for me!
