Title: Sub-q shot blood coming out
Post by: andrews49 on January 16, 2015, 07:54:58 PM
I did my shot a few minutes ago and a lot of blood came out. I've been on testosterone for almost a year now and I've been doing my shots subcutaneously. Sometimes I do it in my stomach and other times in my leg. I did it in my stomach and after I pulled the needle out a whole bunch of blood came out from the injection site. Has this happened to anyone before and is it bad? I feel fine. I just want to know what happened.

I do Sub-Q Estrogen, usually in the upper thigh/leg.  I've had the blood come out a few times too.  I think it just means that you nicked a small vessel/capillary.
But I guess that depends on what you mean by "a lot".    Usually my small alcohol pad square can wipe up the blood without issue so I can put a Band-Aid on it.
As long as the bleeding stops rather shortly when taken care of like that, it's probably the same issue, and nothing to worry about.

How much is "a lot"? I do sub q and it has bled a few times, but I don't really think much of it because, after all, I am inserting a sharp object into my flesh. But if you feel like it's an abnormal amount, I would talk to your doctor.

Well the blood was running down my stomach and my hands were covered in blood. The small circular band aid was covered in it after I put it on. I quickly got a cotton ball to stop it and it did. Just after there was a hard ball where I had done the injection and I get that hard ball sometimes a few days after my injection. It goes away after a few days. Sometimes a little tiny drop of blood comes out after I do my injection but this was just the first time a lot of blood gushed out.

Once when I did my shot it gushed at first, like running down my stomach. But When I pressed gauze to it (I'm allergic to band aids so I use gauze) it stopped. It bled quickly but also clotted quickly I guess. I asked my diabetic friend and she said it's perfectly fine, it happens to her sometimes. As long as it isn't often and stops soon then don't worry.

That seems unusual. You might've just accidentally hit a blood vessel, but I wouldn't worry about it unless it happens frequently.
About the hard ball thing, I have one of those on my stomach. It just happens when you do the shot in the same place too often, and the fat hardens up. Try doing it somewhere else, because the fat there doesn't absorb as well when it's hardened. It might go away if you just skip that spot for a few weeks, or just do it somewhere else. For example, it happened to me because I just kept doing it in the same spot in my stomach, so now I'm still doing it in my stomach, but an inch or so away from that spot.
