Title: voice surgery question
Post by: Billie97470 on January 23, 2015, 12:32:50 AM
Can you do both a trachea shave and voice femmenization surgery.  Or do they interfere, if so how do you decide what to get.  I've read somewhere that a trachea shave isn't safe after voice femme surgery but not sure how true that is and its got me concerned for the future I like the idea of having both surgeries in the future...

Yeson recommends against a trach shave but they'll accommodate you if you work with them on it. Best to talk to them.

There was a bit of a discussion about this some days ago. https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,139439.msg1611238.html#msg1611238

Generally - the less is shaved, the more Dr Kim at Yesons likes it. I dont know about the other docs doing glottoplasty. Dr Kim would like to do the trach shave himself then, so he can be sure it works out. Iff too muc is shaved it can lower the voice again.

If you do CTA instead of glottoplasty, a trach shave can be done at the same time with the same incision

Dr Thomas method also includes obviously a complete trach shave as he does a larxny reconstruction.
