Title: First endo Thursday
Post by: Nikki_Taz on January 27, 2015, 02:46:36 PM
I have my first endo scheduled for this Thursday, should I fast for 12 hours for the blood tests? Im not sure if thats going to matter or not.  I haven't been to the doctors in years.

I wouldn't unless instructed to do so.

Congrats! I just had my tests and did not need to fast. I had done so and was very hungry by the time I left the lab late in the afternoon. I guess it really depends on what tests your doctor requests.

Cool thanks, yeah I just scheduled blood tests not being very specific on the phone.  Im assuming certain tests would require you to fast and other not.  Was just wondering what others had done.

Congratulations on moving forward.  I was not asked to fast and it was not a problem with my endo.  Hope the appointment goes well for you!

Good luck at your endo appointment, it's abit nerve racking, after the first visit, and then waiting for that second visit...   And then it's the day you take your first tablet - T blocker [emoji4] no need to fast, for blood tests. Remember drink plenty of Water .
Congratulations, you're on your way ! It's exciting [emoji106]

If you're like me it's a day you'll remember in detail for the rest of your life. Enjoy!

You should call and ask.

If they're going to do a general checkup on you before prescribing hormones they would want to check your fasting blood glucose which requires fasting for 8-12 hours. I usually do 8 hours or get a morning appointment so I can have early dinner the night before.

In my case they integrated HRT into my primary care so they check everything. Remember too that I have existing diagnoses so they check all that stuff. I always like a complete picture of my health anyway. Helps me keep on top of it.

Good luck!

I never had to do any bloodwork my first time she just asked me what i was taking before and then asked me a few more questions and wrote me a script for my meds i do however have bloodwork coming up real soon and i am required to fast... the only thing i was wondering is why she didnt give me a refill on my estrogen? I'm a bit confused but i'm more scared of missing a day of estrogen! Not sure if thats part of my bloodwork or not kinda confused... any thoughts or ideas anyone?

The only bloodwork I had prior to starting was related to Factor V Leiden, which is a clotting disorder that runs in my family (I do not have it, thankfully).

I was prescribed just enough e/spiro to get through to the next appointment. I should double-check that the spiro will last through the actual date, actually. If you are going to run out before your next appointment (including time to fill the prescription if you can't do it same day), I would contact your doctor. I would expect that she could give a prescription as a bridge to make sure you don't interrupt your treatment. That's a pretty important thing to avoid!
