This article has really distressed me. I don't agree with it at all, but reading it made me feel... awful? Like my identity can be "discredited" and reduced to a "mental disorder" I'm really tired right now.. anyway here's the link..

This person has been and is totally discredited. He is wheeled out by the fundamentalists as an 'expert'. He isn't, his studies are biased, he is discredited.
To be honest he is a waste of oxygen and a tragic waste of trees.
Really? Omg, that's reassuring! How does one have so many journals and articles behind them if they're not even... good? Is there any information detailing his discrediting? Thanks for letting me know, Cindy! <3
He is a believer in ->-bleeped-<- which has been totally discredited. If you use his name and variations of it in Search you will come up with hundreds of post discrediting him.
One of our members even had a TV interview argument with him and discredited him publicly.
I believe that he is banned from WPATH and to be honest I wouldn't waste your eyeballs reading about him.
He is similar to the people who believe the world is flat, evolution never happened. The world was created in 7 days and is 6000 years old, fossils are planted, stars are pinpricks in the curtain and gender diversity can be 'cured' by torture.
He should be in gaol for human rights abuse.

Wait...the earth isn't flat...??
But yeah, people like that, don't waste you're time thinking about them or their vile bile

Well I thought it was round until I realised men didn't land on the moon, just on a backlot in Hollywood.

It wasn't in Hollywood, it was in a desert in New Mexico near Area 51.

Don't feel like you need to hold back on your view of this "person" lol
P.s. the world is really disc shaped, it is carried through space by four elephants who stand on the back of the giant turtle known as the Great A'Tuin
I've posted my opinion of this odious little troll on the article but I'm worried that calling him a troll will insult trolls worldwide

Dear Jayne, as you full know this site runs on tolerance and acceptance. You have insulted trolls by including this person among them.
I will smite you with a positive!
How is puppy BTW?
Nice to see you both.
Cindy
You can smite me all you want hun, just please leave the whip in the wardrobe :-)
Poopie is working hard to keep me smiling, everybody deserves a Poopie in their life

I've broken my personal record and had my comment on that site removed in less than 15min, what a larf!!
Thank goodness there was a trigger warning. I didn't realize how hard I would be laughing with these comments.
I've seen people use this guy as "proof" against us, but there always the same people who tend to be anti-scientist. You know, the 98% of scientists who say global warming is real because they were all bought off by Al Gore.
1. Make up global warming.
2. ?
3. Profits!

"Appeal to the masses" is a logical fallacy. ;)
Regarding scientists who profess things that aren't founded in reality...Remember, 100 years ago scientists (in America, much less so in Germany) were promoting the idea of racial superiority. 500 years ago scientists were arguing, with a straight face, that the Earth was the center of the universe.
Scientists will, in general, promote whatever idea the ruling class(es) want promoted, and will use either false studies, misinterpreted data, errors of omission, or even their preferred holy book to justify their version of "science."
If they don't, they are essentially black listed by potential funding sources, and thus are silenced and/or limited to the fringes of society.
Given this, how would we know if we're being fed a "party line" that has no
real basis in science?
Just a thought, not meant to derail.
:)
If you want to see inbreeding at it's finest search "Sally Kern" a politician from my State of Oklahoma. She has just entered a flurry of anti GLBT bills. She is a flat Earther as well and believes she has the decision power on who is moral and who is not. This world is full of loons! :)

OUUCH!! Yes she was. The bad thing is she has gotten away with so much more than anti LGBT issue's. All I can say is someone, somewhere is getting their moneys worth out of her.
This Sally lady... ew. She was born in my state..

I understand the point you were trying to make with your statement. Just realize that not all Christians are bad news. I'm seeing a lot of Bible bashing going on in this forum lately. I must say something. Sorry. I'm Christian and fully believe the universe (not just Earth) was created in 7 days. I am not offended. I'm just surprised no one else is. :(
The danger of people like this is that lawmakers use their "studies" to promote discriminatory legislation and policies... and worse yet, try to "cure" us.
Hello, there is a cure, and I'm being treated.

The thing is that for pretty much every agenda, there are "studies" that support it and other "studies" that counter it. The problem with most "studies" that are designed to "prove" a point is that they are far from scientific. When evidence does not support a hypothesis, you are supposed to throw out the hypothesis, but plenty of "studies" will ignore all of the evidence that does not support their hypothesis.
Also, data is very easily manipulated and 68.5% of all statistics are made up on the spot.
Most threads here are enlightening or helps us deal with stuff. I don't remember the last time I thought a thread deserved to die.
But this one does. The article it refers to needs to be thrown into the oubliette of history until it disintegrates. It was completely forgettable when it came out and has been thoroughly discredited. It would never have been published if it hadn't been written by a guy with a PhD who many decades ago held a prominent position within a respected institution before declining into his dotage with ossified and outmoded views.
Can we give this article the burial it is crying out for? I'll toss the first shovelful of dirt on its grave.
One last dig at the article..."CNS News"...I couldn't find a reference to what the letters "CNS" stands for, but the majority of articles appear to be pro-hard-core Christian, "we must BEEEElievvvvvEEE the BIIIIIIIIIble...!" oriented.
On that basis alone I'd bury it.
*runs to get the front-end loader*
It's already be stated numerous time that this "psychiartist" is just saying BS.
The state of being transgender is not a disorder but gender dysphoria is.
But I will state that a 'mental disorder' is not:
- wrong
- crazy
- made up
- shameful
- an illness (yes, a lot of psychologists interchange mental disorder and mental illness but illness has such a temporary connotation which only some disorders are)
- necessarily can be cured by medication (technically transitioning is a 'cure' of some sort, plus I don't know of a single medication that actually cures any mental disorder only lessens it if anything)
Saying it is not a mental disorder is saying:
- does not cause distress
- has no neurological explanation (therefore made up)
- is not a problem
- no reason for it to be covered by health insurance
I send very polite messages to anti-trans groups asking them why they think I am the enemy. I let them know that they are not my enemy, and I wish them peace and understanding of their fear of the world. I then recommend they receive therapy to address their issues and offer to answer any questions they may have.
The majority of hate groups consist of people who don't have a friend or anyone to talk to who is trans. I offer them truth as if I came at them with hatred, it will provide no progress for us at all.
The thing with ->-bleeped-<- is that in a sense it's hard to disprove, but I am quite confident it's an effect and not a cause.
Does the thought of being an attractive woman turn me on, well....
Does the thought of being an attractive woman turn any ciswoman on?
The reason I am trying to say this is that even though this guy was an ->-bleeped-<-, ->-bleeped-<- as a symptom, could be used in early detection of GID, or something that psychologists could use to present GID to closeted older people who display signs. I was a closeted older person not too long ago and having a very female-like sexuality made me able to confront myself and evaluate my gender role. I had repressed all of myself and built a mask so strong, that I believed it myself. My femininity is something that caused me much anguish in school at a very young age, and I just shut down my internal female.
