Title: Told my younger brother, got an unexpected response.
Post by: Jade_404 on January 30, 2015, 08:12:29 PM
I had been worried about telling him, he is a bit of a phobic type of person. He is also a stud, very manly man... life of the party guy, all the ladies love him, all the dudes copy him. WAY into sports. He is usually pretty judgmental , right leaning, opinionated.

So I told him on the phone the other day and he says to me "No duh, you have always been girly and sensitive and ->-bleeped-<-. Thats why I always tell people you are my sister." so I told him "I am scared about what people will say and how they will react, hell I was afraid to talk to you about it." He said "Don't worry about it, do what you need to do to be happy. I am partying with my friends right now but got to go, I will call you later and we can talk more about it." I said "That sounds good" then he says "All my friends love you man... then he yelled to the people there partying  "Hey everyone it my sister on the phone!" they all started yelling my name and "Miss you!" and cheering and "love you"! then my brother says "See man they all think you are awesome and still will even if you become a girl."  ;D

I was shocked.. I am still stunned. I know for a fact he will never get the pronouns right but that does not even bother me, he will always call me man, dude, real name etc. I asked him to keep the info private for now, but he can still refer to me as his sister (like he has since we were little), I told him that it makes me smile when he does.

He has not called back yet, but I think he is totally accepting and already knew. I probably don't need to explain anymore to him. It feels good. I thought I was going to have to completely educate him and work to sway his opinion. I don't think that is going to be necessary. Yay!

Yays! I'll bet he comes around on the name and pronouns for his sister before you know it!  :)  Thanks for sharing the love!

It is starting to feel that way. So far everyone I have told has been supportive and basically said "duh" like my brother did. Well except one cousin, he just can't wrap his brain around it.  I can't educate him either, he wants to take me to do "man" things and try to fix me... I told him you can't fix perfection!

That's an awesomely sweet story!

My mom told my younger brother and he says he will always love me, and we'll always be family.

Brothers can be cool!

 ;D ;D ;D UPDATE  ;D ;D ;D

My younger brother called me back last night. I am on top of the world right now, its incredible! I woke up today with such a glow that you all must be feeling it ;)

It took a while for him to understand that gender and sexual attraction were separate. He still may not understand it totally... but he wants me to meet some of his friends, lesbians  :o

At first he was like "If your gay thats cool, I have a few gay friends and I can hook you up with them." but I told him," No, I don't like guys, I don't like how they act, how they smell, how they feel... and I don't like being one, I love girls, and pretty things and girl stuff." He said, "Well yeah you always been girly" and "You are such a bitch in the morning before you get your coffee, now it makes sense, hahahaha"

I sent him a pic, one that I put in the "do I pass" thread here.
I only had lip gloss on. I was shaking b4 I hit the send button, but then he shocked me again. He said, "Holy ->-bleeped-<-! you look cute as hell, wow man , wow you look better than mosts of the girls I see come into the restaurant everyday"

I told him I have not gone out in public looking like that yet, but that people have been calling me Ms and ma'am for a while now. He says,
"You look awesome and you look happy and proud, you should go out looking like that. Screw what anyone else says. If ANYONE gives you trouble they will have the full wrath of me and my buddies and YOU know it won't end good for them!" He went on to say 'You are the smartest person I have ever met and I brag about you all the time. You have always been there for me and you are always so good to everyone, always caring, always helping people, making them feel better when they are going thru bad times. You are such a great person and you deserve to be happy and if this makes you happy then go for it!" I teared up  :'(

He said he was so happy that I would open up with him about this and felt honored that I would share this with him. He said " When we were little you always protected me and stood up for me, hell you even saved my life a few times, well now I swear to you, if anyone even looks at you crossways I have your back! I will mess them up" "Be proud, you look great and you are the best person I know! You should not have to hide your true self"

I think I will ride this great feeling all month! I am glowing SO much, woke up feeling like a trillion bucks!  ;D I still can't believe how understanding he was. How supportive he was.  Wow, just wow  :P "Mind blown!"

He did say he always knew there was something different about me, just could not put it to words. He says "now everything makes a lot of sense."

You have a very cool brother and it seems you have done a lot to earn his respect. It was very moving to read his reaction and I agree with him, you look great, you should try to go out looking like that.

I wonder how many of us have heard that response before?  I too got that from family and friends who were 'not surprised' or 'kinda knew it already' It sure deflated some of my early fears.
Congratulations sister Jade!  Nice coming out episode.
