Title: Needing some help and information, please
Post by: babykates06 on February 01, 2015, 02:05:51 AM
*As of right now my husband has not began his transition to a female, and has asked that I continue to speak of him as a man, so I will be using male pronouns, even though he will soon be much closer to a she*

My husband told me he was actually a she November 1st, 2014 and we were married on November 26th, 2014. I do not have any problems with this transition and I fully support him. His meds will be here within days, and then he will begin to take them, just like we originally talked about. However, we also talked about having one more child before the pills, potentially, sterilize him, and we can no longer conceive. It is very important to me that we have one more child, and he knows this. He also wishes to grow our family with one more child, so I am not the only one who wants another baby. I am terrified that the meds will take away his fertility before we can conceive another child and it is just making me crazy.

Does anyone have any information regarding this? I have read that anti androgens can cause his sperms efficiency to decrease within 3 months. I know that we can make babies, as we have a couple times already, but what if I don't get pregnant within 3 months?

I truly want him to be happy, and I want to spend the rest of my life with him and our family. I can't imagine the hell he as gone through in our relationship before he told me the truth (we have been together for 9 years). I want him to be comfortable in his own skin, and happy with the life he lives. I just also really want one more baby.

Any and all information, links, and opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!  :)

Hi,

And welcome.

The time for sperm reduction varies a lot. My best suggestion would be sperm banking prior to when he goes on antiandrogens. It also gives you a chance for another child if you desire another in the future, or if, I pray it doesn't happen, if something goes wrong.

In the scheme of transition it is relevantly inexpensive and gives you both future chances.

Just to let a time line out, I lost all ability to have an erection and produce sperm within two weeks of HRT. But it is very variable.

My love to you both, and to your past and future children.

Hi

This is a hard one as the meds will work quite quickly so any plans need to be put in action sooner rather than later.

Also a hard issue might be what if something happens?
One option would be to freeze some now for later which many do. This then can be used just in case.

I am sure some of the others will help with more info but once on the meds it is a one way trip.

Hope this helps a bit as you seem wonderfully supportive of your partner.

Jen
