Title: Almost came out
Post by: Makenzie on February 05, 2015, 07:29:09 PM
My dad and I were talking about Bruce Jenner and I was going to come out.He said Brice is a freak due to wanting SRS so I got scared and chickened out.

I am really sorry to hear about that - try not to be too disheartened though! His response is, simply, probably down to general ignorance. Maybe, if the conversation is brought up again, you could ask why your dad feels like that about the situation? You may be able to neutralise his views on the matter which could be a definite first positive step towards coming out  :)
A slow and steady approach always works best. I wish the best of luck to you and much happiness  :icon_cool:

Ah, this is a fairly difficult situation. Is your father part of a religion, and if so, how heavy/into it is he? And does he have much interest in actual science?

Depending on the answer on those, if you were still wanting to come out, it may be easier or more difficult. If he's understanding of science, or isn't very 'radical' or 'hardcore' into religious beliefs, convincing him may become easier. However, if he was into a hard religious belief, getting a clear understanding may become... Extremely inconvenient.

If possible, if you were to come out to him, have another family member or a close, family friend with you t the time. If you have one of those who accept and support you as you are, it is much easier emotionally, and argument wise, to have someone with you, instead of doing it alone.

Wish you luck.

He's an extremely religous Southern Baptist.
