Title: Changing your name more than once?
Post by: Geckoboy on February 08, 2015, 12:48:49 AM
Hey guys, I'm new here and I was just wondering, has anyone changed their name legally more than once? I legally changed my first and middle names about a month ago, but for the last 2 days I've been really worried that my middle name is too different. I don't have anyone to talk to about it, and I know I doubt myself a lot and sometimes I just need to get other peoples opinions on things to sort myself out. So my middle is Silver, after the metal, but I really don't have a reason for it. What do you think? I also spelled my first name with a K when it's normally a C (Kody) and I'm just worried I went too different. I like my first name but I can't stop thinking I should change my middle name again to something more normal, but I don't really want to go through all the name change stuff again. I'm just driving myself crazy because I over think things, and I should have thought more about it beforehand but I had a lot going on and rushed it. I can't be the only one thinking twice about their name, right?

Where do you live? If in Australia I know it is possiable, as I had to consolidate my I.D's (I didn't have 100pts total in one name, due to unique circumstances).

You do have to prove that you are not trying to commit fraud and it is best if the name change was done a while ago.

Personaly I like Kody with a K and nobody really pays attention to your middle name thats where you can have some real fun. But thats just my opinion

I've considered changing my first name for a second time. I made a post here about it a while back if you wanna look in my profile for it.

Your middle name is different, but I think it's pretty cool and how often are people going to see your middle name? If you really think you've made a mistake, then change your middle name again but only once you have another middle name that you're fairly certain you like a lot. Don't panic and change it to anything just to get away from Silver, only to have made another mistake again. Have you already changed all your paperwork/IDs etc to Silver, or have you only done the birth certificate so far?

Alternatively, don't have any middle name if you can't pick one. I know that's kind of boring but not everyone has one. Kody is kind of unique, so it's not like you'd be a John Smith with no middle name. Or go for something classic, or a family name.

I found the middle name even harder to choose than first name. So I understand why you probably rushed and picked anything. Lucky for me I've ended up really liking my middle name and it works well in my full name, but I actually only decided on it days before sending away the name change forms... :P

I live in Canada, and its true no one really pays attention to your middle name, I just tend to worry about things for no reason sometimes. Its funny, I don't remember ever thinking about my old middle name, and I only ever heard it if my mom was really mad, haha. I've already changed my drivers license, health card, etc. and I don't really want to have to change them again, I'm just worried now that it sounds stupid or something.

Thinking I want to change my middle name to my dads first name (Robert) but it feels weird to change it twice. On my name change certificate now, it says my old name and new name, if I change my middle now, will I get a certificate with 3 sets of names, for each time it was changed? I still have things I need to change my name on, and I'm just not sure how to work it all out, or if I should even bother changing my middle name.

Taking this in a slightly different direction for a second.

My sister had her thrid child 2 months after my brother passed away. That amazing almost 4 year old is a smart and bubbly little girl. Her middle name is David, to honour the uncle who would have lavished her with love, but didn't meet her in person. Explanations will one day need to be made, but my sister hopes that my niece will understand and love the man her namesake was. I hope this too, and I hope that my nieces and nephews will love and understand their Uncle Lorenz as much as they do their Auntie Lori.

As far as changing more than once, My thoughts and feeling so far on the name pick have been fairly consistent, adding a little here and there. But I havn't done the monetary and formal aspect yet, so I feel fine with playing with it. I feel that for me, changing my name legally will be right when it is right and not before, and I need to be completely happy with the what of my name and the whys.

I have a daughter with a  number for a middle name. She loves it.  Don't frett on it too much. However, I haven't heard mention of not being allowed to change your name a second time. Here, in the US, some have changed it more often than that.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Parents name their kids all manner of things nowadays, so any questions you could easily shrug off. You could also tell people that it's a family name!

I would say don't stress about changing it until you know what you'd be changing it to, and really sat down and thought about it so you don't waste money and fall into this same position again. Legally, it shouldn't be an issue to change it again.

I wouldn't worry about it.  Yeah, you did go kind of out there with your middle name, but it's not that bad.  If you are worried about it being too different because you are worried about being outed, don't.  I mean really who sees your written first name or your written middle name for that matter, not many people, imo.  Kody is not that out of the norm at all, as someone who sees tons of driver's licenses and tons of other names, not just the ones on the licenses, there are tons of variations of spellings of names.  I've seen a few Kody's.  If you are worried about your middle name outing you, don't.  There are people with all kinds of middle names.  Middle names are generally where parents who want to name their kid after someone, be it a relative or celebrity, book character, tv character, whoever, whatever stick the name.  If anyone questions you and you feel they don't like it or think it's weird, or whatever, you could just go "parents, right?" and shrug.  Don't worry about it.

Silver is actually a fairly common last name, and lots of people have a family surname as a middle name. Not sure I'd want it as a first name, but as a middle name, I think it's great.

Let's just say, its' been done and in most states (and Western countries for that matter), I don't think it's a big deal. It's an unusual name and spelling, but is this a bad thing?

I don't think Silver is a weird name at all.

I changed my name once legally but am going to do it again (and possibly again after that...) it's a hassle but at least I still need to change my gender marker too, so I can kind of kill two birds with one stone.
