Hi,
I've just joined after months of just reading. I suppose the normal etiquette is to say a few words about myself so here goes:
It'd be fair to say I have had gender issues most of my life but have generally kept things under control. I've always seen myself as an occasional cross dresser but nothing more. In recent years my dysphoria has just grown and grown and I'm now struggling a bit. Things look now to be coming to head.
I have recently had a very very generous offer for very early retirement. I am now wondering if this is the kick I need to change my life and "start again" as Caroline and begin to live my life on my terms. The last few weeks have seen me venture out into the big wide world on a few occasions. I'm sure I didn't pass on close scrutiny but the people I met were very polite and treated me with respect, Why Oh why didn't I have the courage years ago!
I've seen my GP (very scary to say out loud what I've had in my head for years) but all went well and am awaiting referral to the psych and gender teams. Hopefully this will help me work out what I really want.
Looking forward to being part of the community.

Hey Caroline,
Retirement is a wonderful time to transition. I too have my occasional regrets and wishes about the past but nothing to be done about that now but learn from it that there is no better time than NOW. Retirement meant more freedom to be me. No bosses, clients or coworkers. We own our home and I feel good about our future security. Of course we still want to get along with people and be treated with kindness and respect and you are already experiencing that. In retirement we also have more time for any number of appointments to see all the people who help us along the way.
Welcome aboard and let us know how you are doing, please.
