I'm getting ready to revamp my wardrobe, and I definitely need to add new shoes in. My favourite pair of boots has finally disintegrated on me :icon_shakefist:
So, my questions are, what would my women's shoe size be, and where can I find shoes in that size? I never saw a size marking on the pairs I had (bought them at goodwill, sizes were rubbed off by the time I got to them), I just tried them on and found that they fit. I'm a 12 Wide in men's...and I do worry a bit that, given my shoe size, it may be hard to find them in stores.
I'm a men's 11 narrow which translates to somewhere between 12 and 11 for women's depending on make and brand. At a men's 12 wide you might have some problems finding anything in most stores unless they specialise in larger women's sizes. There are online sites aplenty but it can be hit and miss getting the right size despite any guides they may offer.
I was afraid of that. Curse these clydesdale hooves of mine.
Go to Payless Shoesource. You can try some on in store to pretty much get your size straight, from there, since not all styles are available in the store, go online and order what you like (sometimes cheaper). If they not fit, you have the convenience of returning them in the store (no hassle). Payless.com will spoil you!
I usually have my orders shipped to the local store because there is no shipping charges. On the website, If you look closely, you can sometimes get online specials and discounts they don't offer in the store. I ordered a pair of boots online, they had them on the shelf for $45, I ordered them on the website and had them shipped to the store for $18 :) and they are MMmmmmm comfy.
Hope this helps!
I recently went through this.
I found shoe shop website (since lost) that had a couple of video's on Youtube showing how to measure your feet and translate that to shoe size. It involved tracing around both feet on paper, measuring, then converting that into shoe size. I'll try to post links if I ever find it again, but its not hard to find sites like this.
I found it a bit difficult, what with carefully checking again and again, so it took me a while. I was thinking of ordering a US brannock to measure my feet instead, but I didn't want to wait the extra time though and they are not exactly cheap. I went with my calculations in the end.
I then went to Amazon and searched by the "Womens Shoes" category, putting in the size, width, and average customer review as filters. That cut down the numbers of shoes that might fit massively - I guess I got big feet. When you look at a shoe on Amazon, apart from the comments which are great, just next to the size selection box and size chart is a Fit measurement that based on customer feedback shows how well the shoe fits its stated size. The shoe I ended up getting actually does fit pretty well.
Once you've found something there's no need to stick to Amazon, but they do have an enormous range (before putting in my size anyway) and good filtering.
You might find more size options at Zappos. Shipping is free. You can order several pairs, including a couple size options in the same shoe if you're not sure. Then try them on at home and send back the ones that didn't fit or you don't like (again, free shipping on returns IIRC).
The first time I ordered from them, I ordered five pairs of very similar shoes. I tried them on and sent four pairs back. A couple days later they "upgraded" my account to free one-day shipping. So, apparently, this is using their service they way they expect.
Kim :)
I agree with the suggestion that someone else already made. Try some shoes on at Payless shoe source first before ordering anything online. Secondly depending on the brand and style of shoe some run bigger or smaller so keep that in mind.
