Title: FTM post op- top surgery question
Post by: Axx17 on February 09, 2015, 03:58:55 PM
When you were changing your dressing/gauze, did your actual areola/nipple start peeling off at one point? This happened to me this morning and I called my surgeon and the nurse told me to keep putting Neosporin on it for the next 3 days before my appointment. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what was done about it. I'm freaking out and have been terrified to change the dressing. As of today, I'm 3 weeks post op.

Yes, totally normal.

Doesn't sound like your nipple is peeling off, just the scab part.

Mine came off in a brown scab after like a week. I had very healthy nipples in my opinion. Keep them covered.

1 week post op, just removed dressings.

2 week post op.

I was told to change the dressing due to drainage. I don't think it's a scab because most of the scab peeled off of my other areola and it looks healthy, but my right areola on the other hand looks very different. Some of the scab peeled off and those parts look as pink as my other areola. However, the pink (areola) is peeling off too. Also the scab is still on the peeling areola.

The whole layer on the left hand side of the third pic, including the areola has been peeling off with the gauze.

I see. These do look a little more unusual than you first described. Have you sent these photos to your surgeon?

Yes I have. He told me to continue putting neosporin on them and to wet the gauze entirely to change it until the next appointment, which is a couple of days away.

Is that non stick gauze? It doesn't look like it, that might be the problem. Mine had a plasticish covering on it so it wouldn't stick to my nipples.

I would say follow your doctors advice and if you notice any changes (strange smells, dis colored discharge or pain, ect) contact your doctor immediately.

I don't think it needs saying but make sure you stay away from alcohol, tobacco and other things that delay the healing process. Keep us updated, and I hope that everything goes well when you see the doc.

No, it wasn't. Perhaps that was the problem.

Probably was the problem. Every time you moved or took the gauze off it was peeling the nipples underneath.
